Is Bigger really Better?

No, not THAT you pervert! If you want to talk about that, go here.

So, for the past 2 years, I have been a bit taller and bigger all around then mosty people. All the “little people” in my life always complain about how they wish that they were bigger and taller, like me. Especially the short ladies. But I think that shorter is better. Less weight to lug around, have to eat less, etc. What you’re opinion?

5’9"
~150 lbs.

I used to wish that I were taller or maybe had a little more muscle on my body, but since then I’ve come to appreciate my size more.

I can always find clothes that fit and getting into small cars is not much of a problem. Nobody has ever called me short, but I don’t stand out in a crowd either.

I think my size is a happy medium and I wouldn’t want to change it.

I am a 5’6" male, and it is always fun to watch tall guys on airplanes. I have flown 18 hour flights several times, and I was very thankful to be as short as I am.

I have heard that short people live longer. Is that true?

When I can’t reach something, I wish for tallness. But when I’m flying coach, I would never want to be taller.

Being a “normal” size… well shall we say not on the large side (especially heightwise), is almost always better if you’re doing manual labor for more than 15 minutes in a row - like when it’s your job. If you think having to stoop a couple inches to get through the divider into the first class section on a plane is bad, try walking around a construction site 10 hours a day carrying 50 lbs of shingles while ducking through and dodging around frames and beams.

You’ll also find out how much pain having a shovel that’s 6" too short or picking up the end of a wheelbarrow over and over that’s just below your standing reach can cause.

Sure, being 6’6" and 300lbs you may be able to pick up 20% more weight than than your 5’8" co-workers, but carrying it up ladders and doing it for hours on end tends to humble you down real fast. The only strength show-offs I’ve known on work sites have been young guys in their first couple weeks on the job. Their backs can’t take it much longer than that, and they start wishing they were more compact and didn’t have so far to reach down or dig.
