Also, does referring to an OP as “stupidity” constitute “thread-shitting” or not? Because I felt like it was insulting and as if I had been punched in the feelings, but if it’s allowed, I guess it’s allowed. Like, can I say, “I can’t believe the stupidity of the OP”?
That’s a very interesting point, all personal animosities aside. (and thanks to your thread in question, I learned the actual definition and source of eggcorn)
There’s a multitude of issues in your simple question. Mods, as Mods can say and do all kinds of things a regular nobody is absolutely forbidden to ever do. So the simple answer is no, you can not talk like that anywhere on the forurms, except in the pit.
As to the question of “close to trolling”, that would be another topic.
Of course it is, but not if a Mod does it. You have to learn the secret rules here if you wish to survive.
So, I should read the posted rules, but not look to the mods to model appropriate behavior. Or, apparently from this thread, to expect the mods to even know the rules and have the ability to explain them. Got it. I think.
Christ, some of you have been here for parts of 3 decades? I’ve been here for parts of 3 months and I don’t think I’m gonna make it to 4. Not because I’ll get pissed and leave, I just don’t think I can steer clear of the moderators much longer.
Imagine it is the price for being allowed to post on the forum. Or go to the Pit and bitch about it, then still try not to piss of the Mods. (edit - wait, don’t bitch about Moderation in the Pit either, that is against the rules too)
It’s sort of the secret rule everywhere. Don’t annoy the people who run a place.
By the by, your link to Merriam-Webster doesn’t define eggcorn. Here’s a def:
I know it doesn’t, it was an ironic link, I found the definition and source on wiktionary, checked dictionary.com, then m-w.com, which ironically hasn’t added it as word yet.
Think about it. If anybody already knows the meaning, they don’t need to click the link. Those, (like myself up until an hour ago), who didn’t know, would click the m-w.com link, and find it isn’t a word. Irony.
I thought you were a troll. Er, I mean, I thought the link was trollery. Er, I mean, I thought it was “pretty close to trolling.” Er, I mean, nevermind.
(Am I gonna get a warning over this?)
If the Mods are annoyed with us, we both could, for being off topic.
That’s how the real world works. If you piss off the people running things, you are going to have a bad day.
If your only purpose here is perceived as trying to rile people up, you will be labeled a troll, and you can be banned.
