Of ruining itself?
OK, I am a big Nathon Fillion fan. He will always be Captain Reynolds to me and as such, can do no wrong. And I like him as Castle. And I like all the characters.
But I sense a bad trend with the show. It seems it has taken itself seriously and forgot what it is. Comedy with drama, not high drama with comedy. Don’t get me wrong, I still dig the sexual tension between Castle and Beckett. It’s the playful interaction between them I like. Plus the Ryan and Esposito pairing. It’s THEM I care about, the murders themselves are a backdrop.
Thats why I was a little put off by the the ‘terrorist’ episode and the ‘catching Beckett’s mom’s killer’ story line which took up how many episodes? And using the Captain as a bad guy and killing him off?
It is a classic series misstep when said series keeps trying to up the ante, drama-wise and loses sight of what pulled us in.
Law and Order did this. It forgot it was a police procedural and not ‘high drama’. It got ridiculous and preachy in the later years, and far less enjoyable. ER did this by just going insane with drama.
Am I wrong? Am I the only one who cares? Does anyone else watch?
What brings this thread on? The next season isn’t planned to start for another month.
But I think I can safely say, particularly after watching the Comicon panel, that Fillion will refuse to let it get dragged into Srs Bsns. He’s way too goofy for it, and the show is pretty much his vehicle.
I think rather than it being a comedy vs drama issue it’s one of MOTW vs mythology episodes. I’m comfortable with the balance so far. They’ve done the “ok just as I’m ready to be with you you start dating someone else” thing a few too many times though.
Can I just delete my life today? so many typos, so many mistakes.
anyway, if the two leads got together, they could still solve crimes and have witty repartee, and even sexual chemistry. just sayin
I haven’t found the arc about the murder of Beckett’s mother to be obtrusive. I am a little impatient, though, about when the show finally decides to pair off Beckett and Castle. I’d like to see it happen before it comes off as a way to prop up an aging show. But I wouldn’t predict that happening any earlier than the end of this coming season; we have the shooting to get through, Beckett’s inevitable you-only-said-you-loved-me-because-you-thought-I-was-dying line to Castle, and the new captain, who is supposedly going to not be a particularly big fan of the interaction between the two.
I’m a chemist, and I’m pretty sure it doesn’t matter what kind of vest you’re wearing (sweater vest, leather vest, etc.), it won’t protect you against heavy metal poisoning.
After waiting all summer, I found Castle’s new season episode pretty disappointing. Kate was in and out of that hospital so quick if made my head spin. One second we see her on the operating table and a second later several months have passed.
I’m getting very frustrated with Kate’s mistreatment of her friends. She goes through such a traumatic event and totally rejects every friend she has. The detectives she works with obviously didn’t know she was returning to work, the Coroner lady that saved her in the ambulance said she hadn’t heard from Kate. Then there’s Castle. The guy she walks all over and treats like crap no matter what he does or says.
I keep thinking Kate will open up and let people in. But after several seasons she’s even more closed off and secretive than ever. I swear Spock showed more emotion for Kirk than Kate shows for Castle & her other friends. She’s a walking iceberg. It makes it hard for me to care about this character at all. Or for that matter even want to watch the show.
If Kate will forever be the cold, emotionless fembot then why bother watching?
