Is Chevy Chase On His Way Downhill?

Saw the Saturday Night Live 40th anniversary last night.

Saw Chevy’s interview before the event and his brief standup during the show. He looks and sounds like he’s got some physical, if not mental issues. Does he have any know problems or is he just an older, overweight man now?

I always thought the guy was waayyyy overrated and a not very good actor.

On his way? Dude has hit the bottom of the hill and been digging for the last few years. After he blew his gig with Community he proved to everyone that his detractors were right all along. He’s an over-rated, under-talented douchebag.

The only one I have ever heard say something nice about him is Beverly D’Angelo. Apparently they really hit it off and they have been friends offset since the first Vacation. Everyone else thinks he is a miserable SOB.

The shame is he was really good on Community. Apparently he had a hard time not being the star.

He had (has?) a real alcohol problem.

Chevy Chase is still alive?!

It’s useful to read the content of the OP, not just the title.

Fine, have it your way: He’s an older, over-weight over-rated, under-talented douche-bag.

Happy?

I thought he mostly retired back in the 90s. FWIW, I didn’t see the episode but googling it a lot of articles are written asking the same thing, is Chevy Chase sick. He is 71, so probably. Not sure with what though.

Thanks. I’m well aware of his assholelish behavior. I was asking about his physical/mental state that he’s going downhill rather fast, even for a 71 year old.

He’s still alive, and you’re not.

But Francisco Franco is still dead, right?

Last night he didn’t look particularly sharp, mentally (physically he was pretty much the same Chevy we’ve seen on Community); but I have no idea whether he was just having an off night (and possibly inebriated), or whether age, or some problem, is catching up with him.

(Some of the others from those early days, like Jane Curtin, Steve Martin, and Bill Murray still looked pretty spry.)

Looks like he’s reprising his role as handyman in Hot Tub Time Machine 2 this year. He’s also in another Vacation movie coming out this year.

According to a supermarket tabloid (so…a grain of salt, and source considering), he’s currently about 320lbs, and they predict he’ll turn into Aunt Edna[sup]*[/sup] pretty soon.

[sup]* I was going to use “punch the moose,” but I realized that that’s how I refer to masturbation.[/sup]

I thought the same thing as the OP. I never watched *Community *but I thought I’d seen a not too old clip of it and he looked pretty good (?) On the SNL show he just looked out of it, and not just drunk.

I thought he looked sick. That kind of puffy swollen weight usually points to a medical problem.

It’s one of the symptoms of congestive heart failure, but it could also be just about anything else. CHF fluid retention normally builds in the legs and feet, but that’s not set in stone.

Roger Ebert is looking pretty good for a guy who’s been dead for two years!

What? That’s Chevy Chase?

Oh, my.
