There is much opinion as to the legality of distilling one’s own liquor. I would like to know if it is indeed legal to distill liquor for one’s own consumption. (Note to mods: I’m not looking for instruction in how to distill, only whether it is legal for me to do so.)

That depends on what you want to do with the liquor. Drink yourself, give it to friends family or sell it over state lines. The latter would be bad.
