So, I really want to have some spending money, but I have to leave my job because of school this fall. There’s a place downtown that offers to buy my blood plasma (I think it’s about $40/visit). Has anyone done this? Is it unhealthy? And will it interfere with my workout plans?
Thanks

I cannot give any medical answers to if it is healthy or not. I did it in college for about a year. I recall they paid about $20 per visit, but you can give twice in a seven day period, so it turns out to be about $40 per week.
The important thing is that you are not squeemish about needles. You will have a needle in your arm for about an hour. It doesn’t hurt, but the anti-coagulant (sp?) actually gave a weird taste in my mouth. I had regular appointments and they give you extra money if you get a tetnus shot and other things. I found it to be a very good source of extra money in college.
The only way it may interfere with your workout plans is that they wrap a ton of tape around your elbow to make sure that the hole closes back up, and it is difficult to bend your arm. Otherwise, they put saline back into your system to replace the plasma, and they give you back your red blood cells, so there should not be any negative effects.
Just so you know, my first visit took over three hours, because they give you a full physical and such.
