Is exercise or rest better for minor ailment/injury?

Hi folks!

I was just wondering in cases such as an infected tooth, a cold/flu, or any ailment or injury where movement isn’t going to exacerbate the problem, would you heal faster if you rested up and let the body do it’s own work, or say rather, a walk/jog a couple of km once or twice a day, in order to get blood flowing, release those good chemicals, etc and thus help the body out?

thanks!

A mild cold, I would workout but at an easy level.

If you truly have the flu, you will be far too sick to even think about exercising.

Injury, if you can work out without pain, the extra blood flow will help heal. Plus, by using the injured part, you “remind” the body that there is some healing to be done.

Infected tooth, no idea.

Unknown.

We are slowly understanding the purpose, effects and reasons for the very common inflammatory response to many body ailments. IMO, heightened bodily activity would not have positive effect if the immune system is busy dealing with a specific problem.

Rest first, then start exercising as you’re getting better.
