No, I don’t have a proof, or a cite, so you must be right to call me out. Clearly, women masturbate exactly as frequently as men. There is no disparity whatsoever. In fact, women masturbate more often than men. That’s why the vast majority of porn is made for women, and only a handful of directors cater to men’s masturbatory fantasies.
Of course there is tons of porn for women, what else do you think those ‘romance’ novels are?
Women have been taught by our society that they should not sleep around, therefore, most females express less of a sex drive than males. However, when you study other societies, especially ‘primate’ ones, you find that males and females have pretty similar sex drives. In my own informal studies conducted with friends, I have found that males and females have about similar levels of sex drives.
I have a sex drive higher than most males, but I do not sleep around because, as a woman, I have more to worry about than males do.
In studies of our closest animal relatives, it has been found that females sleep around just as much if not more than the males do.

And if there’s no demand for “Boys Gone Wild” video tapes, well, maybe women got better taste than we do. As for fem-porn, as mentioned they trend towards print. Mary Anne Mohanraj was a big fixture of Usenet’s alt.sex.stories groups and then became an actual published-on-paper author. “Zane” (The Sisters of APF, Skyscraper) would have her books in the adult section rather than the modern-fiction section if it were a man writing them.
Turn it around and say women understand better how to keep it to themselves and not let their lusts control their decision making, and it’s still a social stereotype. At best you could raise the sociobiological argument that the male evolves to maximize his matings but the female evolves to be more discriminating since she’s the one who has to deal with pregnancy, birth, nursing.
Someone else who thinks that men have higher sex drives then women. Some of the reasons I’ll mention have already been mentioned. Oh and yes, most of these are generalizations and aren’t true 100% of the time.
- Men don’t need to be wined and dined and put “in the mood” before having sex.
- If, a woman did that for a man, he would say “no” a lot less often than women do.
- There are very few male prostitutes because women know that they can get sex for free. Also, even guys who could have any woman they want, like celebrities, still sometimes hire a prostitute anyway. How many scandals featuring female celebrities with a male prostitute have you heard about? If there are any out there, it’s not as many as men with female prostitutes.
- Men don’t punish women by withholding sex.
What I was thinking is it is plausible that women might masturbate more because have been taught by our society that they should not sleep around. There are 2 ways to satisfy sexual urges: with other people or to masturbate. There is little stigma for a guy to sleep around; in fact the more he does the more he is thought of as a “stud”. Thus guys will prefer finding “easy” women than to masturbate. However, for a woman getting a reputation for sleeping around makes her a slut. Thus to keep their reputation, women may choose to satisfy their sexual urges by maturbating.
As for the porn aspect, those “romance” novels are a good point. It may be that women prefer to masturbate while fantasizing they are in situations like the women in those novels. While guys just prefer to look at pictures of naked good looking women.
Thus, based on this assuming men masturbate more is dubious reasoning. Maybe they do. However, I’d like to see some credible stats, rather than guessing based on the most common types of XXX material on the market.

I am in Canada and outside of highschool I haven’t seen that double standard about women having too much sex. When I was in highschool, when a girl slept around a lot there was a lot of discussion over how she compared to guys we knew and whether it was fair to put her down for doing the same thing, and by the time I was in my early 20s it was a bit of a taboo to put a girl down just because she had a lot of sex. Now that I’m in my 30s I don’t know anyone who thinks that way.
