my guess would be this one.
They’re just providing the alternate reality that viewers tune in for.
When facts threaten to seep into the Fox alternate reality, time for a commercial break!
My favorite line from the last Simpsons episode, where Lisa becomes a refugee in Canada and develops a fondness for the place: “Canada! Where Fox News is actually news about foxes.”
Without reading all 47 pages of the thread…
Without Fox News, something else would just take its place. Supply tends to follow demand, in media. There is a powerful craving for right-wing news reporting, by around 1/3 of American news consumers. That would be the 1/3 of Americans who lean conservative and do not feel that CNN/ABC/MSNBC/NYT/etc. provides the coverage that they want to see. Even ***with ***Fox News, there is already also a strong following of Breitbart News, etc.
If Fox News went out of business, most of its viewers would just shift towards Brietbart (which is even less reputable and professional than Fox) and/or the strong demand for right-wing news would cause something akin to Fox News to rise up and replace Fox News. One way or another, 60-100 million Americans are going to try to get what they want.
Getting rid of Fox News could cause something even less desirable to rise up as its replacement.
So it is o.k. with you if I rob you, because the next guy might rob you then kill you?
FoxNews averages 2.4 million viewers — 1st place among cable networks — with Hannity leading the network with 3.2 million viewers on average.
I don’t know of anyone who would have a problem with right-wing news reporting. It’s the lying and making shit up we have a problem with.
Given the social and economic situation in the South during reconstruction, even if the KKK hadn’t formed some other group would have taken its place. That doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t have been opposed, and called out for their malfeasance.
As TonySinclair said, it isn’t the conservativeness that’s the problem its the biased lying, the political propaganda, the spreading of fear and hatred, and utter lack of journalistic standards that drove the creation of this thread.
There is no such thread for the Wall street journal, or the national review, despite the fact that they lean conservative, because even though some people here might disagree with their slant, they do generally employ reasonable journalistic standards.
Alternatively, there is the possibility that if Murdoch and Moon had not grabbed the field with their outside money, there is the (very) remote possibility that an honest and reputable Right-wing news organization might have attempted to set up shop, providing the U.S. citizenry with genuine competing news operations.
Sure. Wholesome, family-oriented Satanism.
There would be no honest political national debate in America at this time without some powerful entity speaking up for the 50% plus of conservative citizens. …The powerful entity that has arisen is FOX NEWS.
Okay.
So why is it that your mouthpiece is so consistently dishonest? Why is it so deeply enmeshed with republican politics (in unethical ways)? Why are its viewers consistently among the most misinformed on any given subject? As I put it more than 6 years ago,
Oh - and welcome to the Straight Dope.
As the Fark headline for this little gem says:
Hillary Clinton: how do you think GOP would react if I had said something absurd like, “hey, China, please hack Trump’s taxes?”
Fox News: “HILLARY ASKS CHINA TO HACK TRUMP’S TAXES”
The “50% plus conservative” phrase needs a citation to indicate that it is not wholly wrong. (I am not claiming that liberals have more than 50%, but I suspect that the numbers for both groups is probably in the 30s and 40s with another group that is sufficiently independent that they do not fall into a neat conservative or liberal box.)
If conservatives need a “powerful entity” to speak for them, they should have the courage and honesty to reject an officially, deliberately dishonest organization such as Fox. This is particularly true if they are genuinely a majority of the population. This thread has documented an overwhelming number of deliberate falsehoods promoted by Fox, yet accepted by a group you appear to identify as “conservative.”

Speak up for the right? I thought the purpose of a news channel was to report the news, not be a fuzzy blue blankie for the right.
You have to remember that according to the hearts and minds of Fox News viewers, they’re just speaking truth against liberal media lies.

What minds?
What hearts?
Is there a video on-line of that FoxNews lie?
Bear in mind once again that “the right” and “conservative” are completely different things. The “right” tries to claim “conservative” values in older to draw legitimacy through the label, but conservatives are not actually opposed to progress – they just want it to occur at a non-upsetting pace.
