Is Fox News really all that bad?

Jesse Watters thinks we need a “surge” in Chicago like what “worked” in Iraq.

Perhaps a new low water mark (didn’t think it was possible):

Huh. It’s like Fox News confessed on Trump’s behalf.

That’s been my position for some time now. It’s been obvious to me that a lot of Republicans know he did it and they don’t care. They think it was a good thing because Hillary.

Didn’t we read one of those years back, when we were so pissed about Dick and Georges Excellent Mideastern Adventure?

“Sure, maybe they weren’t strictly honest about going to war, here, but look at how peachy it turned out!”

I agree but brazenly taking claim for lower crime and a better economy and whatnot that Trump railed against just last year is brazen beyond belief. Then to suggest it’s a-ok that crimes are worth ignoring because of things he had no hand in bringing about is beyond brazen.

Fox News suspends Eric Bolling for sending dick pics to his female co-workers.

How does this fit in this thread? Unless there is a history of Fox promoting (rather than tolerating) this behavior, this is just one guy being an ass.
And, in this case, Fox appears to have actually taken action against the alleged perpetrator.

Certainly, it would have been better for Fox to have actually taken action against Roger Ailes, Bill O’Reilly, and others, but it seems unfair to get down on them when they finally do take action.

From what I’ve seen, Fox didn’t suspend Bolling until Huffingtonpost broke the story. If it was a one off event, I’d see your point, but it’s pretty clear that Fox News’ toxic attitude towards anyone who is not a white man is part of its culture off screen as well as on.

“Clearly suicide, Watson! Observe his cellular communication device. The last message he received was a woman sending an image of pointing and laughing!”

How does this NOT fit into this thread?

You are apparently aware that there have been some pretty high profile sexual harassment (including the CEO of Foxnews, and their top on air personality) which also claimed the job of the co-president of Foxnews because he allowed this to go on for so long, apparently including the time that Eric Bolling was sending his, apparently photogenic penis around.

Foxnews has been a den of sexual harassment for years, and another on air personality just got outed. And apparently the atmosphere was bad enough that they finally were forced to take action because it went public, not because it was the right thing to do. Because they merely “tolerated” this behavior instead of “promoting” it, is a terrible place to draw that line even if one accepts that the premise is accurate; I would argue that if the CEO is doing it, that’s promotion.

Their recent “come to Jesus” moment of being forced to do the right thing doesn’t change what was going on for years.

I just spent 2 weeks on a cruise ship in Europe, where the TV choices in the room (other than the ship’s own channels) were MSNBC-International, and Fox News. So I was able to conduct my own in-depth study.

(For some odd reason, MSNBC was 50% commercials – and the commercials were all promotions for MSNBC. I was so thoroughly sick of them that I was willing to switch to Fox.)

I never saw any of the commentators, like Hannity or Carlson or Fox & Friends, so I won’t comment on those. But the straight news reporting on both networks was remarkably similar – Fox acknowledges that their guy is in a world of trouble, and they can’t explain away the chaos in the White House, and they can’t spin Repeal & Replace as anything but a loss.

One way in which they differ: coverage of the new RW bogey-man, MS-13. MSNBC never mentioned them by name, that I saw.

That’s kind of like evaluating Abraham Lincoln without considering anything that happened after 1859. The straight news on the Fox News channel isn’t much different from the other cable news channels, but it is just noise in the context of the despicable commentary shows that comprise most of its programming.

Video: Fox News in a nutshell. This is real life, not The Onion.

Wow. I’m not sure if I should laugh or cry.

No, their reporting is shit. They posted a recent article with a headline that said something like, “Trump ‘condemns white nationalists’” and then when you actually read the article it was clear he never did any such thing. Those were the words of White House aides trying to cover his ass. (he later actually did. This was before that.)

I’ve seen it happen over and over a million times. They play a video of Obama saying something. Then the host says, “So Obama said [thing he totally did not say]” and react to the lie as if it is truth. Blatantly dishonest, misleading shit.

I’m not a fan of MSNBC either, but it’s Fox who perfected that formula.

Fox News Promoted A Video Of Cars Running Over Liberal Protesters As ‘Useful’
From January 29 until today, Fox Nation kept on its website a video of cars running over liberal protesters. The accompanying text read, “Study the technique; it may prove useful in the next four years.”

Shortly after Think Progress posted about the page, it was removed from Fox’s site. But not before Think Progress got a screen grab:

Study the technique? Seriously, Fox?

It’s not the news on Fox News that’s bad. It’s the non-news shows like Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity. These guys spend their time riling up the audience. Since they’re not exactly news shows, they can make up their own facts. Then, the TV news portion will run with the story “There are reports…”.

Tucker Carlson made a big deal about a story rape case in a Rockville High School. Two immigrant boys 17 years and 18 years were accused of raping a 14 year old girl.

Tucker Carlson ran with this story for an entire week, naming the school super attendant and asking why they allowed these illegal aliens into the school. The school super attendant got a lot of threats and many non-white students in the school were threatened by other kids and people outside of the school. Carlson revved up the indignation stating that the super attendant invited these feral boys into the school. (The truth: No one knows the immigration status of any of the kids. The courts have longed ruled that children have a right to an education no matter what their immigration status is).

A week later, the prosecutor dropped the rape charge. The girl’s story did not match the security video in the school (she said she was dragged into the boys restroom, but it appears she entered into the restroom voluntarily). It was also revealed that she texted naked pictures of herself to at least one of the boys in question. Of course, Carlson simply dropped the entire story and never mentioned that the rape charges were dropped. It didn’t go with the scary brown people trope he was after.

Carlson is also founder and owns 50% of the Daily Caller – a conservative news website that had regular columns from Jason Kessler – the leader of Unite the Right a white supremacist organization that was involved in the Charolette melee. Kessler’s columns now have been scrubbed from the website once his close involvement with his fellow white supremacists became better known. Kessler was sent as a reporter by the Daily Caller to Charolette, but was one of the main actors in the unfolding drama down there.

“Fox and Friends” this morning brought on a liberal and a conservative, ostensibly to debate the toppling of a Confederate memorial in North Carolina. Instead of the spirited round of partisan bickering Fox was probably expecting, the segment quickly turned into the two commentators joining sides against the host to explain how morally bankrupt the Trump presidency is. The liberal commentator, Wendy Osefo of Johns Hopkins, called Trump an embodiment of the hatred represented by the Confederate memorials. The conservative, Republican strategist Gianno Caldwell, said that he was disgusted and that Trump had betrayed the conscience of the country. Both commentators ended the segment tearfully pleading with Trump to bring the country together, and the Fox hosted ended the bit with a glib, “an emotional debate for sure.”

To be fair, they tried really hard to find someone to defend Trump and just couldn’t.
