Just watched A NIghtmarebon Elm Street (the first one) and it occurred to me that, while he’s called a ‘child murderer’ in that film, it’s never explicitly stated that he molested the 20 kids he killed. Can any Nightmare experts tell me why he’s seen as one now? Is it just his crude, sexual humour and killings or ismore back story given in the sequels? Also, are we ever told more about Nancy’s parents?
Nightmare on Elm Street. My apologies.
Yes. He is.
It was often left ‘unsaid’ in so many words, until “Freddy vs. Jason” in which they finally specifically confirm that Freddy is/was a child molester. Agian, they don’t go into detail, nothing more really than a character saying something like “Freddy, the child molester from years ago”, but it’s the first time it’s been wrapped up in so many words.
I really think We Craven didn’t want to get too into detail on that, since Freddy’s first life (in our world) wasn’t the focus of the story, but rather Freddy seeking revenge through the dream world.
This should be brought up in this thread:

Vigilantes need to know that by killing child molesters, they are creating supernatural monsters who can visit terror upon children in their dreams.
I believe they said as much - or at least made it painfully obvious in… Dream Warriors, maybe. No, Freddy’s Dead. When his origin is examined more fully.
I’m going to haveto check out Freddy’s Dead, or at least the script. Until now, all seems to be speculation (though Nancy’smother does seem to call him a ‘filthy child mmmurderer’). I even read a review that assumes Freddy was raping then killing his victims in the first movie.
While on Elm Street, does anyone know why the original script called for a yellow and red sweater, but it was changed to dk green and red?
Shot in the dark here but I’d say yellow would be far to bright a color for the dark dreamy mood they wanted in the movie.
