I know there are guys that watch this, and I did too, but can’t remember the last time I saw a current episode. I probably haven’t seen an episode (non-syndicated) since 2000. I still kind of know what’s going on just from commercials, but don’t know details, and I’m not sure whether or not the commercials were just teasers.
Anyway, to get back on track, it seems to me that most of the fans of the show are women. In my very unscientific experience women usually list Friends or The Real World as their favorite show. This could be because of the age group I’m around (college), though I have female relatives that say Friends is their favorite show too. I don’t know any guys that make a point to see the show, or seem to care about it all that much. Is it because the show kind of changed directions with marriages and pregnancies, scaring away the guys? Has it always leaned more towards females? Or (the most likely answer?) am I imagining things?
I know quite a few guys that watch the show, but like me, we just tune in for Joey and oldschool Chandler. Phoebe is occasionally funny, but Ross/Rachel/Monica are generally painfully boring and geared towards women that I usually just try to lose myself in how hot Anniston and Cox are…
I always assumed it was. A buddy of mine was in the Marines for several years when it was first on. Once he got out and caught a bit of it in syndication he fell in love with it (well, with Jennifer Aniston, but that’s another story).
He’s gotten every season as it’s come out, and I always make a point to tease him about it. For example he’ll say, “Hey, there was a Friends marathon on last night!”
I’ll say, “Yeah, but I was watching the Rose Bowl, like a MAN!!!”
OK, for the most part my suspicions were confirmed.
It could be that I was never that big of a fan. I did like to watch NBC on Thursday night when they had Friends and Seinfeld, but I did lose interest when the characters started having more serious relationships with each other, I guess. Like the “Joe Stalin” episode, wasn’t that before all the in-dating started? Those were the good times.
Even now, with the shows that are in syndication, I don’t really care that much. I will watch Seinfeld over anything else, I’ll watch Friends if there is absolutely nothing else on.
Compared to the earlier episodes do Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox look a lot different to anyone else? I know that they’re older, but they look different to me. I’m not sure why, it’s like they’re thinner than the used to be in an attempt to keep from getting older or something. Has anyone else noticed this, or am I just not aware of how much older people get over a decade?
Yeah it’s a chick show. I remember last year when I lived in the dorms I’d go out to the dorm’s big tv to watch Scrubs and I’d always catch the last five minutes of Friends. There were usually 15 or so girls there and maybe 2 guys.
I think it’s been going downhill for the past few years too so I couldn’t be bothered to watch it.
Also I noticed the Courteney Cox and Jennifer Aniston thing too. Compare Courteney in Scream 1 to 3 and you’ll see she looks like a skeleton in the latter.
I think Courtney Cox Arquette has been “sculpted”. She has molded herself into the image and likeness she’d prefer. . .personally I preferred her as Michael J. Fox’s girlfriend back in the day. . .
I think Jennifer Anniston may simply have matured. She is slimmer, but not to the extent of the “emaciated perfection” of Courtney. Plus she just seems a softer person. Courtney seems to be turning into one of those women whose skin is already embalmed before they die.
