Well if she had titled her book, “A Survey Of The Representation Of The Young Male In Western Art 1546 to 1792”, there wouldn’t be a story. If she pervs it up and speaks of sperm flowing like tap water, then you have a story.
I don’t understand your point. Presumably, you’re* not *arguing that if it’s on an advertising poster it’s not paedophilic, if it’s on your ‘puter or bookshelf it is ?
How are you defining “child” ?
I think you’re probably right, Eolbo. Thing is though if the media want a story out of nothing, they’ll create the angle.
Fwiw, I think there are any number of debates worth having on the subject. For example, what the hell is paedophilia; is it defined by a certain age range, certainnon-physical acts – accessing the material on a computer is an offence in the UK. And, stripping away the modern ‘hysteria’ what is the full historic context and are we better informed now, or are societies perceptions influenced by sensationalist media . . . .lots of things I’m really not entirely comfortable with . . .
As for Germaine Greer, I think I’ll wait for the publication before firming up any opinions.
All I know is when I was 18 and she was 29 she could’ve made my “sperm run like tap water.” She was hot! But her comments on the advantages of boys versus middleaged men could be a fond remembrance of her college days, for all we know at this point.
There is a millenia-old appreciation of the youthful human form. Sounds like more of the same, aimed at young males by a heterosexual woman for a change. Amazon currently has it filed under “Art History.” I’m going to withhold judgement a few months, but it’s looking like a tempest in a teapot. Or a publicity stunt that will result in a lot of disappointed people who heard the buzz but didn’t realize they were buying an art history book instead of pornography.
A man was just given five years for taking “artistic” photos of a 16-year-old boy in Texas. So apparently this is OK only if you’re a woman and NOT in texas.

I offer this only as additional info. The whole issue is entirely too muddled for me to comment on.
