Is it a male-dominated world? Why or why not?

So, I like this good ole argument, and I just want to say the way people make it out to be is truly an exaggeration.
Here are my arguments

If it was a men’s world truly, there would be more men than women

If it was truly a men’s world, there would be more son-father couples around

If it was truly a men’s world, men would be used more in advertising

If it was truly a men’s world, we would have gender neutral marketing then for a lot of things[Soaps, body wash, shampoo, etc]

If it was truly a male dominated world, there would be more female to male transitions out there.
If it was really a men’s world, then men would barely have to put any effort into attraction…

Now i don’t deny that there are truly patriarchal societies out there. But even so, most are barely strong these days. Even the worst are not as strong as they probably were during the Roman Empire or Barbaric times.

Those are all incredibly bad assumptions.

Well then, I would like to be proved wrong

The measure of power in society is better measured by wealth, social mobility, frequency of discrimination, and so on. Not how many male underwear models you see on busses.

Puberty continues to be hard for boys.

Is this an East coast thing?

Mostly in the morning, mostly.

CMC fnord!

What about parenting or reproductive rights?

For father-son couples?

Sure😏

Is that an East coast thing?

Hehehe

There are. Biology has accounted for the spectacularly stupid ways in which men get themselves killed, by having 107 male births for every 100 female births:

This is also a really bad example, since male-marketed versions of soaps, body washes, and shampoos are for basic and 3-in-1 type stuff at minimal cost. But women are expected to devote a significant amount of time and money to buy an array of more expensive products that serve the same hygienic purpose.

I suspect the frequency of 3:1 MTF vs FTM transitions largely has to do with the fact that to a not-insignificant portion of society, a male acting and dressing effeminately is seen as either shameful, or comical - but a woman dressed in male clothing with a male haircut behaving in typically masculine fashion barely raises an eyebrow. A woman whose gender tends towards the more masculine end of societal norms, given the current attitudes, is more easily accepted without requiring a full transition than a man embracing a feminine role. Why would this be the case if it were a female-dominated world?

I don’t know. It seems to me in a matriarchal society the females would be expected to be the ones taking the initiative and taking control, and the men to be passive, submissive, and receptive.

This one is almost exactly backwards.

Unless the ad is for a weapon, or a power tool, or something else that’s considered masculine, why would I want to see a man in the picture? I’d much rather see a good-looking woman.

In economic and political terms, I would say men clearly enjoy more success and influence than women; whether it rises to level of ‘domination’ is a bit trickier to define.

That said, I think women have influence in other areas that they sometimes don’t realize, and that some things attributed to sexism, aren’t.

To play devil’s advocate for a moment, I often heard it said that a classic example of sexism was the number of jobs and social roles available to men, while women had only the options of homemaker, nurse, or schoolteacher. That women are now accepted showing traditionally masculine or feminine traits, while men are still pigeonholed into their traditional roles, could be viewed as greater freedom available to women.

Proving yourself correct is another option people go for.

And not judging but your list has a few homosexual implications. The father-son thing, natch. But also the “why aren’t there more men than women?” How is that going to work? “Why don’t they only use men in advertsing?” Seriously?

Anyway, I wish you luck in your hope to be proven wrong.

Fair enough I understand these aren’t really effective examples, but still there is no denying that women like to act everything is male-dominated, everything. Nursery, our cooks are all male, fathers are better than women, etc.
I also brought up parenting and reproductive rights in the case of legal issues.
I never really thought either gender really dominated the world, even as a guy you know you naturally feel left out/isolated and girls have their own social circles, Girl Scouts, etc. But then you see more boy-targeted cartoons anyways and there is more male gamers .

You know there’s also Boy Scouts, right?

Yeah they made girls be allowed in so it doesn’t really serve any purpose calling Boy Scouts

I had a long and thoughtful post just ready for the OP, but decided against it because I would have been wasting my time, and lessened for posting it.
