Since Monday I have had this pain in my lower right side. It is below my waist line. It is probably about 3 inches to the right of my navel and down 1 inch from my waist line. I don’t feel any pain unless I rub or push in this area. My brother has had both a hernia and appendicitis and he said that with both of those conditions the pain was terrible. He always felt like he was going to puke and have a bowel movement for the appendicitis and with the hernia he couldn’t lift anything or bend over. I still feel healthy and can lift things and bend over without a problem. I was thinking that maybe it is a bruise but I don’t remember anything hitting me in that area that may cause a bruise. The area that is sore isn’t red or black and blue. What do y’all think it is? I hate going to the doctor because I don’t want to appear wimpy, especially if it is a bruise.
Have you been constipated? If so, that might very well explain it… as I understand appendicitis, the pain is excruciating (keep in mind I have never had it, nor am I a doctor… though I do have a little medical training).
Could also be an infection of some kind…
Nope, I’m not constipated.
It is my understanding that the pain would be very bad too. My brother said that the first time he received a pain he doubled over and thought that he had been shot or something. I don’t feel anything like that.
I had appendicitis when I was about 14. About a month before I had my appendics removed I had a pain very much like you described. It lasted about a week and then went away.
A month later it was like your brother described. I was very sick and had a horrible pain. Even breathing was painful. If you have serious appendicitis I think that you would know.
It probably could be many things. If it is a tiny pain and you don’t feel sick I would probably give it another day or two to go away. If it doesn’t go away I would definately see a doctor. Of course I always put of going to see the doctor until I am really sick which isn’t always a good idea. In fact, if I were you I would ignore any medical advice from me.
I had my appendix removed 9 years ago to the day. The whole week before, I felt slighty nauseaous (sp?), with a slight pain in the middle of my gut. On Friday (the 13th), the pain grew so much that I couldn’t leave my apartment. I was admitted to the hospital, where they ran all sorts of tests looking for anything besides appendicits, because the pain wasn’t in the right place; gall bladder, for example. On the 14th, I started fading, and a nurse called in the doctors. I’m not sure what exactly clued them in, but they got me to OR and removed my rupturing appendix.
My appendix was higher than most; my scar is right beside my navel and 5 inches long.
My appendicitis kinda snuck up on me. Had I just called in sick on Friday and suffered through the weekend, I would’ve been dead. So don’t be hesitant to see a doctor!
Well, I just made an appointment to go see the doctor. One of my friends here at work said that I’m probably just suffering from pussitis.
I hate visiting the doctor.
You know, I had something like the pain you’re describing twice before. The second time, I was in the hospital for a few days, had an elevated blood count, and the whole GI distress shebang.
The doctors thought it might have been appendicitis, (pain was indeed located in lower right quadrant) but weren’t sure, so I lay in hospital bed for a few days while making a rather nasty mess every few minutes it seemed.
At the end, I just got better. They still don’t know what it was. It sucked though.
I would definitely go to the doctor.
I hate doctors too, unibrow, but ya gotta go, especially if you’ve been running a slight fever. They will take a little blood to check your white cell count and if it’s high you might be a candidate for appendicitis. You don’t mention your gender, but if you’re a girl an exploded appendix can severely affect your future fertility (all the icky stuff running amok in your abdomen can get into and block your fallopian tubes).
You don’t want to wait until it explodes, a ruptured appendix is one of the most painful things you can have happen.
