Is It Just Me, Or Did Christmas Seem To Arrive Quickly This Year?

OK, I was late in Christmas decorations, normally finished on the Sunday after Thanksgiving but it took longer…and then I gave some thought to gifts and did the cards and finally got everything done and…bam! It’s here.

I seem to have missed the build up somewhere along the line…I have a grand total of three more days to appreciate the decorations and it is history.

Normally I have time to at least sit back, glance at the tree, flop on the couch and watch It’s A Wonderful Life, but this year it seems like I am dashing through the snow racing a one horse open sleigh and losing the race.

Maybe it is a sign of getting older…

No; you’re not imagining it; Christmas actually arrived on the December 19th around here; we tried to tell it to come back later, but it just stood there on the doormat in the rain, making puppy eyes.

DMark, I feel the same way. I love Christmas, and usually I’m on top of everything, and I really take time to enjoy it. But this year it seems like I just can’t get a handle on it. My gift shopping has been uninspired, my cookie-baking has been by necessity instead of craving, and my mood overall has been distinctly unyuley.

Here it is the 23rd, and I’ve got to work a full day, I still have gifts to buy, almost nothing is wrapped, and my house looks like Tornado Alley, which is a problem, because I’m hosting this year. Speaking of which, add grocery shopping to my list of things to do.

This year I’m looking forward to my post-holiday vacation much more than the holiday itself.

It certainly did. Yet the calendar has just as many days as it normally does.
I think it has to do with the refraction of the atmosphere, or something.

I’m afraid that is the answer… :frowning:

You and me both. The years pass more quickly all the time.

I’m Here!
Where’s my present? :dubious:
A CLAPPER!
Waaahhhhh! :frowning:
Bye!

Could be worse. Could be one of those “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!” EMT summoners.

DMark, you’re absolutely right. It just didn’t seem to get the big buildup this year. Christmas fatigue, I suppose. Somebody was pointing out to me the other day that the lights have not been as spectacular as usual, and by gum, they’re right. Plus we got our tree (size smallish) at the last minute, have not finished decorating it, and the manger, while out, is still empty. However, unusually for me, I actually bought and even mailed a present some weeks ago.

The terrorists have won.

If we don’t celebrate Christmas as we always have, even with al these visitors from out-of-town, then The Tourists Have Already Won.

I think it might be possibly that it’s on a Sunday this year, meaning that a lot of people are working through today and it just doesn’t seem like as much of a holiday on a weekend.

Maybe the Feds should make Christmas the last Monday in December. I’m sure that’ll go over real well.
