Baby announcements seem to be sprouting up everywhere. Given the dopers overall age and demographic profiles are we just at “that time” for a healthy portion the female contingent?
Is it forthright female fecundity or simply my foolish fantasy at play?
No seriously. Nearly every female I know IRL has become pregnant in the past several months as well and it’s really starting to creep me out. (I would’ve thought the way the world is going to shit would DETER people from having children.) I have my own little conspiricy theory worked out, but you don’t want to hear it. (And yes, it does involve the water.) I don’t have to worry though, unless there’s some sort of new way to get pregnant that I don’t know about.
Actually, I’ve seen a few media stories (no cites at the moment, sorry), that indicate that conception rates have significantly risen since 911, especially in New York, but nationwide as well.
The usual theory is that it’s due to people reaffirming life in the face of disaster, etc. It actually makes sense to me.
there are three couples at my church that are expecting, too – and our congregation is not that big. So it must be going around – I’m drinking only bottled water for a few more years…
This explanation makes sense only up to a certain point. I know far too many people who are having babies IRL between January and July 2002 to for this to make sense.
Example: My husband works on a “team” with 6 people. 4 of the 6 have/had due dates between January and June. 3 out of the 4 are first babies. And their one ex-team member is due in July! And I could make a list of the other half-dozen people I know that are pregnant. Before this, I knew very few people who were pregnant.
There is something weird going on here. I wouldn’t be surprised if we go down in history as the mini-baby boom of 2002.
In my case, it was one of those unplanned planned things, if you know what I mean. The only thing that’s bad right now is the timing, but I takes things as they come.
Robin and I had plans for later on, but through some weird circumstances she got pregnant. And for the life of me I’ll never figure out how.
I’m currently seven weeks pregnant. It wasn’t planned at all (this is our third). And since I’ve gotten pregnant I really notice all the other pregnant women around the place.
But I doubt its something in the water since I’m in Japan. Hmm…what sort of things does Japan import from the States?
It says in What to Expect When You’re Expecting by Arlene Eisenberg that pregnancies increase during times of war. I imagine it’s some evolutionary response to make sure the species doesn’t die out.
And yes, I’m reading pregnancy books because I just found out I too am pregnant for the first time.
