It was the escalation of the war under LBJ in 1965-67 that played a big role in his sinking popularity. His announcement of halting the bombing in North Vietnam, in March of 1968, was in the same speech in which he announced that he wouldn’t be running for re-election. And, the war continued well after LBJ left office, running through the early 1970s, and the Nixon administration.
You do know, do you not, that what’s going on in Ukraine has been going on for the past nine years? I.e., encompassing the entirety of Trump’s time in office?
No I think he’s right. If Trump was in office I think it is likely that there wouldn’t currently be a war in Ukraine. The advanced weapon systems we sent to Ukraine would have been sold to Russia for oil and by this time last year Ukraine would be back to being a Russian puppet. Peace in our time! (if you ignore a bout or two of ethnic cleansing). Next stop Finland.
If what you’re saying is that Trump wouldn’t have supported Ukraine, given both his love affair with Putin and Zelensky’s refusal to play ball with Trump’s corruption, you’re absolutely right. US support for Ukraine wouldn’t have happened under Trump.
If you’re suggesting that Mr. “Never met a dictator I didn’t like” would’ve stood up to Putin–well, that’s just silly talk.
donald’s first impeachment came about because he delayed congressionally authorized weapons to Ukraine over an attempt to create scandal surrounding his upcoming opponent, Joe Biden.
And why was Ukraine in need of such weapons?
Answer that and you’ll understand why your claim is completely incorrect.
Most of the Trump supporters I hear from have changed their tune to “He might not be a great guy but he kept his promises”. So I looked at some of his promises. Improve infrastructure? Yeah, Biden did that. Allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices? Biden did that too. Funny how it is Biden who is keeping Trump’s promises.
In short: a journalist covering the ASEAN summit in Indonesia as the pool reporter (i.e. covering the event for several media outlets) called out questions to Harris and Indonesian president Joko Widodo and was promptly physically blocked and banned from all press events (despite the questions being fairly standard). Harris and the US delegation refused to go into the summit room until the journalist was reinstated and allowed to attend.
Nice to see a bit of backbone in defending press freedom, even when it complicates the meetings being held.
I think Biden is a good President. Not the most accomplished President (largely due to the MAGA Party shooting themselves in the foot while looking for pets from Trump). Could he have been (and should he be) more forceful in getting out word of his achievements and blasting the other side over their slowness and sabotage efforts? Sure, though I know it would be an uphill climb, and likely wouldn’t ever reach some people.
