As much as I hate to give credit to Trump for anything, it was actually the Trump administration that agreed to withdraw from Afghanistan. The Biden administration adjusted the timetable a bit but Biden did not make the original decision to withdraw. The Doha agreement was signed in February of 2020, almost a year before Biden took office.
Troop strength had already been drawn down from about 13,000 troops to 2,500 troops before the Biden administration took control of the country. The final withdrawal of troops was always going to take place during the Biden administration. Trump’s original timetable had it completed in May of 2021. Biden slipped the schedule to August. As far as I am aware, the schedule slip was entirely due to practical reasons and had nothing to do with politics.
I know right? I thought it would have been when Trump was endorsed by the Klan, or the time he praised Nazis, or maybe something like the Trail of Tears. Turns out it’s Biden’s fault.
He was president – he could have found a way to avoid withdrawing, as many generals urged him to do. But he went through with it, and rightly so. Trump may deserve some credit for planning to get out, but it was Biden who pulled the trigger. Presidents have changed their predecessors’ plans countless times, so it certainly could have been possible here. But Biden made the right decision.
How about the other question? What Biden decision has been worse, or even nearly as bad, as GWB’s decision to invade Iraq?
White House communications director Ben LaBolt said on Twitter that Biden was fine. “There was a sandbag on stage while he was shaking hands,” he explained.
Yes, still feel the same way, I am kind of liking Marrianne Willimasen because she sees as I do that the division in our country is probably the most important thing that needs to be dealt with.
I guess I’ll agree again. My point was (is) that in politics more than in anything, perception is reality, and the collective perception is heavily flavored by throngs of low-information dunderheads.
I’ve seen multiple polls where Trump was ranked as significantly superior to Biden in terms of “managing the economy.” As if the president were some powerful wizard, conjuring up just the right economic mojo in his basement lab. As if Trump weren’t a stunningly incompetent idiot, with one major skill—grifting.
Like it or not, presidents get credit or blame for the perception of the economy’s health. Also have seen multiple polls where the economy (or “concern with the economy”) was the number one or two voter issue.
Not stating anything novel, I’m sure. People’s votes are enormously influenced by their belief, mistaken or not, in who best eliminates their economic anxiety. If their anxiety is baseless? Doesn’t matter.
Biden is a horrible human being in every way imaginable, he stands for nothing. Not going to compare him to Trump. Except to say he is even more divisive simply because he never lets up. He has no morals and no principles.
