He’s gotta get as much of his money back as possible. He’s not going to quit.
So when does Trump’s management team start leaving him. The political thinkers don’t want to be attached to a historic loser. I think a couple weeks prior to the election, his "brain"trust will start abandoning ship.
He’s not going to quit; he’s going all in. His poll numbers will rise a little, Hillary’s will fall a little, and we will be back to having what we had going into the race, a Hillary victory, but not an especially dominant one. It could be close enough for Trump to milk this into a “I got screwed” post-election day soap opera.
If you look at what he’s doing now, it’s potentially the most serious attempt at a general campaign as I’ve seen him make post-convention. Are the odds in his favor? Oh hell no, but…Hillary has not been able to finish him off. And that matters. And if she’s not careful, it could really matter.
OMG this made so much sense - can somebody point out where it’s wrong? please?
I don’t think he’ll quit, but if he does, it’ll be something like that, or “My multi-billion-dollar business empire needs my hands-on leadership once again,” or “I’ve run so hard and so long that my family is begging me to come home again; I love my country, but it’s time I reconnected with Wife #3 and the kids.”
When are the deadlines for filing to run for president? Hasn’t Trump passed or nearly passed those, meaning if he drops out the RNC can’t pick someone else to replace him?
I’m still thinking Trump will run, lose, and then claim the election was fraudulent and ride a wave of angry white resentment into some new multi million dollar venture.
Umm…every minority and women hating him, and a concerted GOTV effort on the part of the Dems as opposed to little or none for the Pubbies.
The party has filed that a candidate is running as their nominee. I think that say, if Trump died, or had a stroke … or quit in a snit … even a short time before, they could replace him.
Why can’t the angry white guys secede?
That way, they could win every election in Bubbastan. We’d maintain diplomatic relations, let them send ‘Mailbox Shotgun Biathalon’ teams to the Olympics, and buy their exports of pork rinds and banjos.
How do we know that Trump will stick it out? Because he earlier declared otherwise!
Nonsense. For the first time in his campaign, and probably in his life, he’s making a sincere effort to broaden his appeal.
Considering what Trump has already said and done in the past couple of months, I really don’t know what you think Clinton can possibly do to “finish him off”, especially in August.
“Sincere”. When Trump talks about reaching out to black people - he only does it from the safety of a room full of white people.
If the election is in November, how can one “finish off Trump” in August?
Specifically to answer his supposed broad cultural appeal: it takes a lot less than a majority of the country for a given act/person to seem like “everyone likes it”. That’s why so many people feel like they are a rebel for rejecting something that the majority of us don’t even like. The best-selling albums of all time have sold around 50 million copies. That means that of the around 3 billion people who have been rich enough to afford them during that time span, fewer than 1 in 100 actually purchased them (since some purchased them multiple times: for instance, I have 3 copies of Dark Side of the Moon, and my brother has Thriller and Licensed to Ill which he previously had in childhood).
So if a couple million Americans are yuge fans of the Apprentice, that means that only 1 in 100 Americans like it. But it can still rake in a lot of cash, enough cash that it is worthwhile to advertise and thus keep it in the face of everyone, even those who don’t like it.
In that way, it’s exactly the same argument as “Look at the size of his rallies!”. People advancing this either can’t or won’t acknowledge the difference between enthusiasm and popularity.
Sure. It fails to take into account the fact that I have decreed that there shall never again be a Republican president.
Also those other things.
You mean like Corey Lewandowski and Paul Manafort? They found convenient excuses to bail early, even while Trump was doubling down on defending assault against women and questionable dealings with Russians.
His current team are all right-wing media buffs in it for the ratings and the connections. There’s no brain trust over there.
