I just discovered Reddit, and find I’m spending a bit more time there these days, just as a lurker. I only show up here to be entertained by other people’s stories & experiences, and occasional witty comments, and somehow Reddit seems to have more of it. Probably a combination of volume and the upvote/downvote system that means I can see the best posts first.
Also, honestly, I find SDMB regulars to be a bit closed-minded about paranormal, fortean, and/or and sometimes spiritual type things I find interesting–and seem to be very common human experiences (even around here, almost everyone has a story, as confirmed by a poll I did once) --yet acknowledging them any way, or even refraining from jumping in with immediate negation and belittlement of the OP, would somehow constitute a Betrayal Of The Cause. “No. There’s no such thing. If there’s no peer reviewed journal article documenting evidence for it, then it can’t exist. We’re here to Fight Ignorance, not encourage it. It’s impossible to be closed minded toward such things, as such things don’t deserve consideration. Oh, and Flying Sphagetti Monster! Hur hur hur!”

I think we’re a little hyper-vigilant about trolls, personally. For me watching a good troll, or even a mediocre one, liven things up with absurdty is a rare pleasure of the internet. I realize that this is an unpopular opinion, though.
You’re no different than the others, except for admitting it. They love shouting ‘Troll!’, and they’d be really disappointed if there weren’t any.

We used to have plenty of the first two back in the day; somehow the moderation has become much more concerned with that kind of thing than they used to be.
