Is it possible not to know...?

Either on this board or maybe another. (or GASP a chat room) where two or more people could be friends and post on the board and not know. Of course if they didn’t know they coudn’t answer this but you all get the idea.

Has anything like this happend to anyone here. Bonus points if it was really embarrassing and your nice enuff to share

I think its possible, depending on how you handle yourself online. I share enough that I think anyone could eventually realize they know me, but if I were strictly a GQ poster dealing just in questions and answers keeping the personal narratives to a minimum I think it could go on indefinately.

The odds of such are a different beast.

What Omni said and to add to it - it could be significantly different depending on how much or what you put in your profile.

In another site, I ran into and got talking to this guy who turns out I went to highschool with.

So, I think it’s possible that you know someone here, especially using user names.

Any connection between your reality and mine is purely coincidental.

I used to watch the soap opera Guiding Light and the head writers told a soap magazine a story about when they both worked for the now-cancelled soap Loving. It seems Headwriter #1 and Headwriter #2 were going to soap chatrooms anonmyously and raving about how wonderful Loving was. Neither one knew the other was doing the same thing and they talked for hours about the show. The next day, Headwriter #1 and Headwriter #2 went back to work and started talking about the person they met in the chatroom. Turns out that the soap fan they were talking to was the other headwriter. What a couple of morons!

Work is fine for killin’ time, but it’s a shaky way to make a living.

Oh, heck, yeah, it’s entirely possible. I had NO idea I knew Johnny LA IRL until we (re)met at the recent So. Cal. do.

Anybody else?

A cubicle is just a padded cell without a door.

Well, I once met this very nice young lady in a chat room, and when we finally got together IRL she turned out to be the same FBI agent who caught me the first time . . .
