In the contact section of the profile, there are places set up to enter your ICQ number, AIM and Yahoo Messenger names, etc…would it be possible to add a spot where you could enter your LiveJournal nickname? A lot of people can’t use the same nick over on LJ that they do here, and I think it would be a nice option for people to have in case they wanted people to be able to find them over on LJ.

The home page url field can be used for this. Or just put it in your sig.
Sure, that could work on a case-by-case basis, but I was thinking of something a little more streamlined. How many people are actually going to look at the “Home Page” field and have it occur to them to go with an alternate purprose and enter their LiveJournal nickname? If the LiveJournal nickname was its own field to be filled out, the same way that ICQ, Yahoo Messenger, etc. are, then people would fill the info out a little more systematically and it would therefore become a little more useful to the community in general because you’d have a place to reliably look to see if someone had a LiveJournal (or at least one that they’re willing to direct people to).
As it stands, there’s no field for entering this information available in our version of vBulletin (there’s a newer version available, but I don’t know when or if we’ll go to it). I believe that we’d have to have someone hack the script. Our IT people don’t like to have many hacks in our version of vBulletin, so I really, really doubt that we’ll have something like this, unless vBulletin adds a field for LJ names.
I am very sure of the fact that the IP people don’t like hacks in our program. I’m less sure about the likelihood of one appearing on the SDMB…though I would be surprised to see one. There are other, more useful hacks we can put in that would have priority.
My advice is to do what rowrrbazzle suggested, and put it in your sig or home page URL area.
Well, the idea was aimed at getting other people to list their LJ nicknames in their profiles, not so much how I could list my own (which I’m perfectly willing to do via the method rowrrbazzle suggested. I would have liked to be able to click in and see if someone had an LJ if I found their board persona to be appealing and wanted to get to know them better, that’s all.
Oh well, it was worth a shot.
