I have a question for anyone who might know the answer. My friend and I have been debating over whether or not it’s physically possible to cough so hard you dislodge a tonsil. She claims that in middle school she had a friend that went to her Grandparents house (who were both smokers) when said friend returned she had a cough that lasted for several months. Her friend told her that she eventually coughed up a tonsil and when my friend looked down her throat she claims she saw only one tonsil. Does anyone have an explanation for this? I don’t think it’s possible but if anyone could clear it up i would be very thankful.
IANAD, but I don’t think it’s possible, no.
Your friend may have coughed up a tonsolith, and mistaken that for a tonsil.
Perhaps if the tissue was damaged, i.e necrotic because of an infection…
Ewww, that´s a gross mental image there; if you excuse me I´m going to scrub my brain with steel wool now.
