It would be great if we could see pics of lions fighting tigers without clicking.
That’s possible, but would have nothing to do with the automatic displaying of images.
On another board, I find it useful to be able to display charts and graphs inline. If there was a “Charts and graphs only: no celebrity pictures or images of lions fighting tigers” box, I would check it. I suppose the board could display non-animated gifs only, so as to make posting celebrity images less fun.
Bah!
Be afraid, be very, very afraid.
I’d like to see pictures enabled.
The problem is some people are too stupid to realize that just because some girl has her nips and vagina covered doesn’t mean it’s work safe. Like say for example showing some lady in a micro bikini, spread eagle would NOT be a good idea.
But all this may be moot as I’m sure all of the fine upstanding Dopers on this board would never Browse the Dope when they know they should be working. Right?
I’m not saying it’s a big deal..but I could imagine someone being concerned enough that they don’t want the images displayed because it could open an exploit. Forcing links would provide an (extremely thin) additional layer of security.
Just being pedantic. I doubt anyone is actually concerned about this angle.
Carry on. ![]()

I’ve thought about this a few times but I just don’t understand.
My first guess what that this person was making a joke. But, there is nothing to joke about here.
My second guess was that this person just didn’t like this thread and decided to post something “off the wall” in order to throw everyone here off their stride. I have done that in the past and although it’s not a very nice thing to do, it certainly does tend to throw everyone for a loop and causes them to waste their time. I have found that this kind of thing will get me banned if I do it more than once.
But, it sure didn’t seem like that was the point here.
So, bottom line, I just have no idea what this post was about or what was the intention. I have always felt that I could take a joke as well as the next guy, but I just have no clue what this is about.
So, I’d just like to come out and ask the poster, “Why would you like to see lions fighting tigers? And how would it help you to not have to click in order to see them?” Can you please help me to understand this?
Lazlo: Behold this thread if you dare, make sure to click every link to a picture (or at least imagine what it would be like if your browser automatically displayed them all) and then all will be clear.
Oh my gosh, Voltaire!
If I didn’t know better, I would think you were trying to kill me with a message board assination.
Well, at least I am one step closer to understanding the reason for your message board name. Wow! What a bunch of clicking!
And, you say all will be clear? Oh no!!! I yam lost here and now.
Mahaloth, Yes Indeed. I too would like to know what you find so scary about Megan Fox? I can certainly understand why people find Megan Hauserman scary. If you are carrying any cash and you come within ten feet of Megan Hauserman, your cash will usually find a way to self-animate and make a B-line for Megan’s bank accounts. But, this is a well-known phenomena and there is no need for you to worry. It happens to almost everyone (men and women alike) almost all the time. You will be OK providing you just carry singles. For some reason, singles are attracted to Megan like bears are to honey. Just do not carry any large bills. Carry only singles.

Voltaire,
My five minutes elapsed and so I could not edit my previous message.
I finally understood why you showed me that post with all the pictures and I thank you very much.
GIS for “fox thumb”.
Sorry, Lazlo. But is work safe, unless they have a thing against toes.
This is one of my complaints about Tapatalk, because it obliterates the text in the link. Sometimes such text actually has content.
I’m getting closer.
I’m guessing GIS stands for Google Image Search. Correct?
Also, I see that if someone wants to display say 100 pictures (or thumbnails) on a web page, it would be almost impossible for any visitor to “click” on all of them to see what they all contained. It would just be so much easier to let them all be initially displayed and then the visitor could just click on the ones they choose.
And, so now I’m guessing that GIS is used somehow to enable visitors to choose whether they wish to click on a single link and that link, in turn, will go to a web page conatining all 100 images and all displayed.
Am I on the right track here?
Oh. So there is a concern that if anyone sees a link containing the phrase “Megan Fox” and they click on it, then they will see a page with many pix of naked women?
I can see why that would def be a concern.
Long story short, this is why we don’t allow people to post images directly to the Straight Dope.
Warning: Subject matter is offensive.
There’s some other subjects that caused us to rethink policy concerning posting images, but seeing that one over and over again convinced us having direct images on the board was not a good idea. We see no reason to change this policy.
On the other hand, I would never have known about midget porn if not for one of these links. People – even little people – do the damndest things.
I didn’t think of it(uh, her), either. It didn’t say Meganfox.com or something.
Heh, no problem. ![]()
That’s one very good reason.
Another is that on boards that do allow pictures, it’s very rarely used to add extra content, such as a picture of the subject under discussion. It’s used to add extra snark. Extremely annoying.
