My friend has a PS3 (don’t know the model) and wants to know if you can play PS1 games on it. Is it possible to either (a) play PS1 games directly from the CD or (b) download PS1 games directly onto the PS3 via the internet? Just curious. Many thanks in advance.
Yes. PS1 games are playable on the PS3. Both the discs & via the PSN.
OTOH, PS2 games are only playable on very early models of the PS3 though. Hardware, then software emulation were phased out rather quickly.
I probably spend more time playing PS1 games on my PS3 than PS3 games! I haven’t played much of anything in the past few months, but before that, I played a lot of Resident Evil 2 (one of the best games ever), Tomb Raider 2, Fighting Force, One, ReLoaded, Tenchu, and others.
The fact that PS2 games can’t be played on most PS3s is, in my opinion, a total gyp, and makes me hate Sony. It’s bullshit.
By the way, I think there were far more innovative and clever games for the PS1 and PS2 (and Dreamcast and N64) than for any of the current SuperHiDefExtremeNextGen consoles. It seems like all the games now are Call Of Duty XTREME BattleZone Modern XTREEM Warfighting clones.
Moving to the Game Room.

It doesn’t matter how many times you say this, you’ll still always be wrong.
There may be some merit. The move to PS1, Dreamcast, and N64 was the move from 2D games to 3D games. (Yes, there were 3D games on the previous generation, but it wasn’t the norm.) There were probably more abject failures experimenting with the extra dimension as well. To some extent, we’re seeing the same burst of innovation related to motion controls, first on the Wii, then with Kinect and Move. Unfortunately, I think that round of innovation is far less successful.
