is it time to "buy stock" in Katie Porter? if not, can you explain why not?

I sort of remembered chuckling at the footage of her wiping the floor with Ben Carson about REO’s vs Oreos back in May 2019. But to this day I would’ve never remembered her name.

Then just earlier I was reading back through the “Biden’s choice for VP candidate” thread, and post # 98 caught my eye.

I Googled the name, and came across the Ben Carson video and once again got a good laugh out of it. But then I started watching some other videos, including this segment of her on Samantha Bee’s show.

And holy shit - count me in. Everything Guest-starring: Id! said, and then some.

Is her time coming soon? Sometime in the distant / not too distant future? Is there a reason why she doesn’t get mentioned more than just that one time (thus far) in the “Biden’s choice for VP” thread, and she hasn’t yet been mentioned (thru 15 posts as of press-time) in Happy Lendervedder’s Biden Dream Team thread?

I didn’t feel right ‘hijacking’ one or both of those threads, and since I’m so enamored with her at the moment I decided to say “screw it” and just give the gal her own thread.

Hopefully I (well ok, who’re we kidding - Guest-starring: Id!) gets credit for “calling it” when we’re revisiting this thread (this November? well ok, maybe 2022? c’mon… certainly no later than 2024?).

Porter is great. The “fire and brimstone” description might lead people to assume she’s a showboat, but she’s not: she’s simply smart, astonishingly well-prepared, and determined to hold the exploiters to account.

Any larger role she can play in USA politics will be to the benefit of the USA.

I’d love to see her take on Pence in debates. And Trump. Dotard will just say she’s not hot enough to be taken seriously and storm off. She’ll tear through anyone who moves the goalposts.

She’s pretty great, but I’d like to see her get a bit more seasoned before we talk about VP or POTUS. More legislative or some executive experience or a Cabinet department…

Agreed. If we are talking about veep this year, first term House member sounds significantly less plausible than second term (Val Demings). Plus, Biden does not need a story that will overwhelm his own. And divorced woman who says ex beat her is exactly such a story. Trump would say that’s the only reason Biden picked her and would be widely believed.

Maybe I shouldn’t take this literally. But, pace Marshall McLuhan, television is a cool medium. And even before TV, William Jennings Bryan lost three times.

Um, PhillyGuy, you seem to be quoting Guest Starring: Id! by way of Win Place Show in that second quote instead of me. It’s obviously an unintentional error, and a sentiment I actually endorse, but I must note the misattribution.

Apologies to all.

I love her! I’d be more than happy to have her as VP or as President.

She’s Feisty! We need Feisty.

I like Katie Porter and think she has a promising career in politics and/or the unrelenting and entertaining shaming of CEOs and public officials who show up without answers to basic questions but Biden is not going to pick a VP candidate who will challenge him and be so unpolitic about calling out hypocrisy regardless of idiology. Ditto for why he won’t select Stacey Abrams or Elizabeth Warren (who would be wasted in that role anyway). Despite their previous conflicts I expect he’ll select Kamala Harris because of both the demographics and that she’s sufficiently liberal but not so extreme as to alienate centrists.
