Now, I’m not saying the WORST, I’m just saying the least effective. There are plenty of QBs who can’t handle themselves and rarely get down field without miracle plays. This guy is just NOT involved in the Redskins ability to score. He may be able to get them down field but he seems to be incapable of performing in the red zone. When the Skins do score he is rarely directly involved.
I can’t think of a more boring, in effective quarterback in the NFL. He may have decent stats if you look at his history, but he just FEELS in effective and never seems to make THE PLAY.
Right now, I’d rather have him than Delhomme. Also, Campbell’s receivers are Moss and Randle El, who are both 5’ 10". These days in the NFL, you gotta have at least one tall receiver. The days of the Smurfs are over.
I’d disagree with that. Jason Cambell is a pretty solid NFL quarterback, which is saying something because teams are loaded with sub-par NFL quarterbacks.
He doesn’t really do anything wrong, but doesn’t do anything to win the game by himself. He’s a game manager, and if you have a solid supporting cast, that’s more than adequate.
Which might make him the wrong guy for that team but the right guy for another team. Trent Dilfer was a mere “game manager”, but he has as many Super Bowl rings as Dan Marino and Brett Favre put together.
Can I change this topic to Jay Cutler!!?? FUCK!! Can we send this guy back to Denver!!! He needs to take a sack instead of throwing the ball away into a mob of green.
He’s not ineffective at all. He’s had a revolving-door of offensive coaches (and systems), doesn’t have any good red zone targets, and his offensive line is average at best. He doesn’t throw a lot of touchdowns, but he also doesn’t throw interceptions- only 6 last season in 16 games, which is damn near the NFL record (4).
This is the first time since high school where he’s got the same offensive coordinator for two years in a row. It’s also only his second full season as the starter.
He did look a bit tentative again yesterday, but I think he’s in for a big year.
Randle El is the #4 receiver now (which, frankly, is where he belongs). Malcolm Kelly (second round pick last year) won the starting job opposite Moss.
Wow, was Kelly a non-entity for a starter yesterday (1 catch for 6 yards). Meanwhile, Randle El had 6 catches for 98 yards, so you see why I made that error.
Jeff Garcia (last year, not over the course of his career), Byron Leftwich (all the non-production and none of the not-getting picked off), Brian Griese…
I think a lot of his ineffectiveness yesterday was the result of poor play calling. The Giants were stacked up in the box and blitzing like crazy, just daring the Redskins to run. So they did. Over and over and over again. They just didn’t throw the ball enough.
I’ll go ahead and call it right now: there’s no way Zorn keeps his job after this year. Campbell will not be invited back either, so we get to start all over from scratch. Again.
I think Jason Campbell is a pretty good quarterback. Probably about as good as Eli Manning (which is not, in itself, a glowing recommendation).
The LEAST effective quarterback in the NFL? Are you kidding? Without even thinking hard, I can come up with LOTS of less effective guys starting at QB in the NFL. In no special order…
JaMarcus Russell
Jake DelHomme
Matt Schaub
Brady Quinn/Derek Anderson
Kyle Orton
Marc Bulger
I COULD pad my list by including rookies like Matthew Stafford, but I won’t.
Schaub, ineffective? Matt Schaub threw for 3,043 yards and 15 touchdowns in 11 games last season- which works out to 4,426 yards and 22 touchdowns over a full 16 games. I’d call that pretty effective.
