Is John Cadogan a known quantity in Australia, or just another internet crank?

I have to admit I find this guy, a self-styled auto expert, quite entertaining. He has a YouTube channel called Auto Expert TV, and the Australian AutoExpert website. One of his favorite terms for cars he doesn’t like is “shitbox”. He did a piece on VWs Dieselgate, estimated that the emissions might kill as many was 1400 people world-wide, and said something to the effect of, “You’d think Hitler’s own car company would be more sensitive about gassing people to death.”

Is he pure entertainment, or is there any real substance there?

Never heard of him but I really don’t take much interest in the area. For what it’s worth, “shitbox” is not at all original epithet. It’s very common slang for a crummy car here.
