Wow, when I see what now constitutes rape in Dopers’ eyes, I can only sigh at the nasty soup of what puritanism and badly digested feminism cooked together amount to.
I truly hope that Sweden has an above 4 years old take on rape, and dismisses the charges.
Why is Sweden going to dismiss the charges right after it issued the warrant? (Although in point of fact, the convoluted situation with the warrants is one of my concerns about this case. I think charges were filed, then withdrawn, then field again as the womens’ stories changed.)
I presume you posted this in the wrong thread? Curious, though, almost seems on-topic…
Cause they’d have nothing to back them up with? Like not having rape as it would be defined by an old maid but as what it really is (I still dont know what constitutes rape in Sweden, and it seems most dopers here think that it should follow exactly the rules as they are in the US; fortunately the world outisde of the USA is not the USA).
I just didnt know that when you were charged, you were automatically prosecuted, the Revolution must have happened while I was sleeping…
If it’s true that the sex was fully consensual, there’s nothing to back them up. The story being reported today is less favorable for Assange. (Condoms break, but the fact that he had this issue with two women is a bit odd.)
I’m sure all the old maids out there would be fascinated to hear your views about toxic feminism-puritanism and such. But somehow it’s not adding credibility to your opinions about sexual assult.
If you’re not a fan of feminism, I really don’t think you’d take to Sweden.
Yeah. About as much as George W. was bone fide presendential material - lol!
NB: Threads like this shouldn’t be created as they lend weight to the patent smear campaign the US are attempting to conduct, and issuing from that, their outright disrespect for we, the public, in assuming we’re stupid enough to be so easily distracted from the real issue of import here - the malfeasance of US power brokers.
Sablicious, he’s alleged to have forced women to continue having sex with them after they withdrew consent. If that’s true, I don’t see how he isn’t a rapist.
Can a woman tell if a condom breaks half way through coitus ?
Maybe he just uses a lousy brand of condom.
I’ve had it happen more than once and she didn’t know until I told her (“We have to stop. It broke”). If I hadn’t said anything she wouldn’t have known. I don’t think the difference is as obvious to women as it is to men.
Out of interest, are you making the claim that continuing to have sex with a woman after she has asked you to stop is not rape? What is it then? Being impolite? Giving the bitch what she deserves for being a prick tease? A man’s right because he has a hard on?
If that’s what he did, it’s rape. I still find the timing of these allegations extremely convenient and suspicious, though. Also extremely difficult to falisfy unless there is video.
No question - I’m not making any comments on whether Assange himself is a rapist. I don’t think any of us can possibly know that. However, the situation as described would be rape, and I find it amazing that thinking so can be described as “the nasty soup of what puritanism and badly digested feminism cooked together.”
Well, what if he knew the condom broke, and she didn’t until he was finished and withdrew ?
Is that rape ?
This is attack the messenger motif. If we argue about Assange we are not discussing the terrible things we do around the world. It is an old trick ,that still works well.
So does Sweden have the world’s shittiest condoms, or does he still carry some dry-rotted Australian condoms in his wallet, from his teenage years?
Some people find it possible to carry on two (or even more!) conversations at the same time, especially in a written message board format. YMMV.
So, now, it’s sexual assault, and not rape anymore? Thanks for proving my point.
Flippant charges are like accusations of pedophilia or being Nazi/antisemitic, you just have to accuse, and not really have to back it up.
