Is Mark Addy trying to do an American accent?

I saw the premier of the sitcom ‘Still Standing’ earlier this week. I can’t remember the name of the husband, but I did recognise him from the britcom, ‘The Thin Blue Line’.

But, when I saw him in the commercials, he didn’t seem to have much of an English accent. When I saw the show, I could hear a hint of English accent, but it didn’t seem as obvious as when I saw his character in “The Thing Blue Line”.

Is that his real accent, though? It’s been a while since I last saw ‘Blue’, but I thought it was a little more obvious.

Needless to say I haven’t seen (or heard of) Still Standing, but I can confirm that Mark Addy is from York in the North of England. I don’t remember him very well from The Thin Blue Line either (not my favourite show) but you can hear him speak in his “natural” accent in the film The Full Monty - it’s distinctively a Yorkshire accent.
