Allison finally solves the case but way, way too late. Allison’s efforts to save the reporter from death utterly failed. I doubt that proving that guy really was the killer will save Devalos’s job: the public knowledge that he’s been taking advice from a psychic is just too embarassing to the city. Allison doesn’t have a job anymore, her husband Joe doesn’t have a job anymore.Maybe someone decided the show had just run it’s course?
good question. i guess it’s a great finale if it doesn’t get picked up for another season. but that’s a ratings/network thing. i’m sure if it gets renewed, we’ll get to follow the story of how Allison and family put their lives back together.
regarding the DA – depends on writers’ mood, i’d imagine. OTOH, they were right when the guy was found guilty at the first trial. not too many people actually plan their crimes so far ahead that they assemble a conspiracy to make themselves look innocent by having a cohort do copycat killings after their conviction. so regardless of who Devalos listened to and why, he was right to insist on going for the guilty verdict. now they can add a slam-dunk second conviction to the husband’s sheet.
as a complete hi-jack for a moment ---- WTF??? this is the first time i’ve ever seen such deliberately misleading promos for a show! Allison firing a gun? hooded attacker going after the reporter? none of that was in the show i saw! i can’t decide if i’m miffed at being led down the garden path, or give a high-five to the writers for not letting the network spoil the payoff.
Medium has been picked up for its fourth season, which I think starts in January (arrrgh). I thought it was a good cliffhanger - not a typical “who lives? who dies?” cliffhanger, but one where everyone’s life is pretty much thrown into chaos.
Since it’s based (loosely) on the life of the real Allison, I doubt they’d end the series with such a miserable outcome for all concerned.
Poor Joe, though. He’s had an absolutely sucktastic month, ever since the shooting at his office. I loved the performance of Jake Weber throughout this arc, and am glad he got the chance to shine.
Considering that the show is based on the life of an “actual” medium who apparently essentially fabricated her claims about helping police solve crimes, I’d say that this was pretty true to form.
Ok, so the show has been picked up for another season. I’ve thought about how things could go from here. How they can continue the show after endangering the elements that we’ve grown familiar with. If I were the writer, I’d do something like this:
Devalos just barely keeps his job as DA because his original prosecution is vindicated; but he’s ordered to drop Allison from the payroll. He and Stanlon still take clues from her but entirely under the radar. Forced to look for other work, Allison finds ways to take advantage of her newfound notoriety and becomes a semi-professional “psychic for hire”.
On the home front, at first it looks bad for the family as they face losing their home and Joe faces the loss of his professional career. At the last minute one of Allison’s visions gives Joe enough leverage to force his former company to settle out of court. Not a fortune but enough to pay off their mortgage and other debts. The old friend of Joe’s who was starting up his own company last season hires Joe although in a lesser position at lower salary. They’re solvant but struggling, which makes Allison’s psychic work vital to the family’s welfare.
