That’s an interesting conundrum, because in a situation like this it is not insane to ask whether the official government official, federal law-enforcement officer, judge, etc. you would share intelligence with is a cartel member/stooge. Get it wrong and not only will your help not lead to any arrests, it will precipitate more murders.
Right. That New York Times article even says, “The cartel’s conversations were intercepted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in 2014 while investigating the cartel for trafficking drugs into suburban Chicago. Mexico sought the text messages for years, but American officials handed over the 23,000 only last year, in part because of a lingering distrust of the Mexican government, an investigator said.”
