OK, let me restate that: I would doubt that many heterosexual males would find Michelle Obama sexy.
By “many” I mean, let’s say, more than 5%. Sounds about right. Yes, there is always some person X who will be attracted to person Y, but it doesn’t change the overall percentages.
It seems to me that the pro-Michelle people are focusing on the things that undoubtedly make her attractive as a person – her intelligence, achievement, grace, style, and so on – while ignoring or being unaware of the thing I’m enquiring about, which is whether or not she is physically attractive, leaving all that other stuff aside. I’m saying, no, she isn’t.
That’s probably a result of being so tall. Being tall doesn’t cause poor posture, of course. But being taller than average can cause acute self-consciousness when one is a teen. She may have slumped to fit in. Luckily she married a man taller than herself, tall enough that she can wear heels with him.
I’ve said elsewhere, Barack Obama is quite handsome - for a politician. He stands out from a pack of pasty white men with bad comb-overs. But he is not handsome by the standards of Hollywood and is no Denzel Washington. In the same way Michelle is very attractive for a First Lady. If her life had taken a drastic turn early on, she would not have had a career in Hollywood. But by the standard of the other parents at the PTA meeting? Quite attractive.
This is about how I would put it, too. She’s not physically attractive enough that she could have gotten through life just on her looks, but then very few are. Compared to others who don’t get by on their looks, though, she looks pretty good. And she’s absolutely more beautiful than Cindy McCain, Sarah Palin, or Hillary Clinton.
gaffa, Barack is straight up sexy! Period. Did you see those college pics of him, looking all cool? Maaan, he got so much with him, you gotta just shake your head to watch him on tv trying to look all ‘stately’ when he clearly looks like he can put it down if he wants to. Don’t get me started. Don’t get me started.
Well this gay man has no trouble knowing which women are sexy.
I would call Michelle “handsome,” in the sense that “handsome” can apply to a woman. She’s got big hips and bad posture, and I personally don’t like that shape of eyebrow. But she sure does have brains and class and her own style . . . and it doesn’t hurt to have a super-hot husband.
Haaa! What you mean, 'besides whatever is going on with her lower/jaw when she smiles"? You killing me. You can’t just write that off and still say she is above average! That’s like saying, 'That ugly guy is kind of handsome; except for the ugly parts." Hee!
Heh. We talked about this around the time of the election too: politicians (and their spouses) are held to a different, lower, standard than celebs, or even average people.
Michelle’s okay looks-wise, even when compared to non-politicians. There’s nothing particularly compelling or repelling about her, just like most first ladies. Audra McDonald could play her in the inevitable TV movies.
The 6’ 3" Penn Jillette of Penn’n’Teller claims the main reason he moved to Las Vegas was for the showgirls. There are few men around they can date who won’t look like they’re with a transvestite. He said “the most beautiful words in the English language are: Ohhh…I could wear heels with you!”
I think Hillary is/was gorgeous*. I noticed a long time ago that pictures of her are always awful but she usually looks good on video. Bad pictures of her must sell better.
*Umm, on the political curve that Zsofia mentioned, of course.
