I bought a copy of Sunshine on Leithmassively on sale at a major chain store the other day, and when I opened it up yesterday it looked…different from the copy I owned years ago. I can’t say what I was expecting, just that something didn’t match up.
Should the cd itself be white with just the band name and album title in red? Should the photos inside the insert be grainy black and white? Is my memory failing me weeks before I turn thirty?
I have what I also hope is an original version, and it’s a silver shiny CD with “The Proclaimers Sunshine on Leith” above the hole, with the songs listed below the hole . It’s copyright 1988 Chrysalis Records Ltd.
Photos are in black and white, but they don’t look that grainy.
But often record companies will re-release CDs, altering some of the little things somewhat, including the physical CD - but usually not the CD cover. My cover is blue, with the two brothers facing away from the camera. Says “The Proclaimers Sunshine on Leith”.
Things like that get changed all the time when an album is repressed. I’m not sure what major Nettwerk is an imprint of, but it’s entirely possible that they redid some of the artwork for the re-release.
