I pulled out my Bob Dylan Greatest Hits 3 cd today and I noticed how scratched up it is. I have bought this cd no fewer than 3 times already. Funny, it hasn’t happened with very many of my others, but this one has been repeatedly replaced.
I bought the Sara McLachlan (sp?) CD twice now.
Also the Tracy Lawrence CD that has the song “Time Goes On”. My best friend and I used to drive around listening to that CD every time our boyfriends ticked us off in high school. haha So it got scratched up several times.
Light weights!
I’m not sure if I should do the remasters that I’ve bought over the years or not. But let’s see:
Iron Maiden, I have bought their albums, on LP, tape and CD 3-4 times each, some even 5.
Rush, I have the majority of them remastered.
I’ve also owned Def Leppard’s Pyromania on LP, tape, and CD.
My biggest album that I have owned more then a few times is Gary Moore’s Wild Frontier, I’ve owned it on tape three different times, had it stolen a couple of times, once on CD and am looking to buy it again when I can find it.
Nas - It Was Written. I swear, that damned thing was cursed. It fell out of my portable CD player TWICE and got so scratched up, it was unreadable. How it got that messed up by just falling on the floor is beyond me. Cursed, I tells ya. I didn’t buy it a third time though. I just stole my sister’s.
I know I bought U2’s Achtung Baby at least twice. The first one got scratched. I think that’s the only one I’ve had to buy multiple times. I’m fussy abut keeping my CDs in good condition.
If they keep digging up bonus tracks I’ll probably keep buying the same CD’s for the rest of my life, not to mention the two or three new formats that I’ll probably live to see. Yesterday I finished off the Judas Priest remasters. I traded in the original issues for store credit to help defray the cost.
If I go back to the tape and vinyl days, I’ve probably bought the entire catalogs of KISS, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Jimi Hendrix, Motorhead and ZZ Top at least three times each.
People used to help themselves to my collection frequently.
Paul Simon’s Graceland 4 times
Mickey Hart’s Planet Drum 2 times and I don’t currently own it
Phish’s Picture of Nectar 3 times and I don’t currently own it
Iron Maiden - Live After Death (tape and CD)
Rush - Moving Pictures (wore out the tape, bought a new one then bought a CD)
Sepultura - Chaos A.D. (tape and CD)
AC/DC - Back in Black and For Those… (tape and CD)
Ozzy - Diary & Blizzard (tape and CD)
Hank Williams Jr - Greates Hits Vol 1 (tape and CD)
Def Leppard - Pyromania (tape and CD)
Apocalypse Now (VHS) and Apocalypse Now Redux (DVD)
I’ve purchased Jamiroquai’s Travelling Without Moving three times. I’ve lost all three copies.
I bought Goldie’s Ring of Saturn twice…both times for one track (What You Won’t Do for Love). I lost both of those, too.
I just bough Dark Side of the Moon for the third time, now in 5.1 format.
I have purchased AC DC back in black about 5 times between album, tape, and cd.
I was surprised recently to find two copies of Elton John’s Goodbye Yellow Brick Road in my collection. I must have forgotten that I had already purchased it.
ELO’s Out of the Blue:
8-Track (yes, I’m old)
album to replace 8-Track
CD
CD for a friend after I wore his album out
sealed first print
blue vinyl UK edition
sealed blue vinyl UK edition
German import album
Collector’s vinyl edition
sealed 8-Track (damn you, E-bay!)
I don’t know if mine counts, but it is a fairly interesting story. I bought two copies of U2’s Achtung Baby less than half an hour apart. I was at a flea market and I bought the cassette for five dollars. About fifteen minutes later, another guy was selling CDs and, you guessed it, I repurchased Achtung Baby from the CD man for $5. I’ve never even opened the tape, but I still think $10 is a pretty fair price for a CD. Besides, I can always give the cassette as a present or something.
If buying for friends counts, I have also purchased Moby’s Play twice: first for a friend’s Christmas present, second time for me.
George Winston, December - 3 times. One for work, one for home and one for the car.
Boston
Holly Cole - Don’t Smoke in Bed
I bought this one twice as well. The first one started to skip horribly, so I bought another…which does the same thing. I think whoever pressed the CDs did a really bad job. After buying it a second time I gave up. Luckily, it only skips in some CD players, and not in others.
I need to replace my well worn Agents of Oblivion CD.
Depeche Mode: Black Celebration - Got irreperably scratched.
Eurythmics: Be Yourself Tonight - Stolen
Eurythmics: Savage - Stolen
I will buy every “different” release of a cast CD. Different country, different cover, bonus tracks, whatever. I have five different releases of the original London cast Phantom of the Opera and four different releases of the highlights CD. I went nuts with the Madonna Evita, racking up 31 copies of the 2CD, 1CD and different CD-singles.
Counting Crows August and Everything After I had to buy three times because a girlfriend played my original copy so many times (and so carelessly) that it stopped working, then took the one I bought as a replacement.
Beck’s Sea Change I bought for everyone I know. I bought 4 or 5 copies of that one to give away, but amazingly I never remembered to buy one for myself to replace the pirated copy that I burned just before the album hit stores. I figure I’m on solid ground though since my having pirated the album resulted in the album being bought at least 5 more times than it would have been otherwise. I don’t mean to hijack though. Sorry.
