I picked up The Beatles “Love” at FYE today where they were having a $10 sale on all CDs. That’s when I realized that the last CD I had bought before that was Suzanne Vega’s “Beauty and Crime” in September 2007. I had received other CDs as gifts since then, but “Love” was the first CD I had actually bought myself in over two years. Pretty much all the music I’ve purchased since then has been on iTunes.
So what was the last CD you bought?
Four Albums of Military Song from Oscar Brand is the last one I bought, in March.
The one before that was The Warriors Code by Dropkick Murphys, in February.
Jehtro Tull: Nothing Is Easy Live at the Isle of Wight 1970 combo CD/DVD, just a couple of weeks ago.
Can’t even remember. It may have been the Eagles’ “The Long Road Out of Eden.” I’ve been purchasing downloads of everything since then.
Evil Power by Lair Of The Minotaur - crappy engineering and amateurish in other respects, this album still makes you wanna holler out the truck window “let’s kill these motherfuckers!”
ETA: I didn’t even realize that this album had been recorded, but as I make regular trips to my local Zia, I found it the day after release!
ETAA: This question isn’t really fair to me as I buy a new CD every few days or a week or so. In fact, I usually buy more than one at a time.
Irene by The Honeycutters
Bought it after one of their gigs at the Shakori Hills festival. Great cd. Rarely buy a physical CD anymore, but after a concert is the main exception.
Should that link to a **Beyoncé **video? From your post, I wasn’t expecting a Beyoncé video.
Valleys of Neptune by Jimi Hendrix about a month ago.
Hilario Duran - From the Heart
Robert Occhipinti - A Bend in the River
(Links go to MySpace pages.)
Both discs bought at a Hilario Duran concert in Victoria about two months ago. (Robert Occhipinti is his bass player.) Lots of downloads since then, but those were the last physical discs I’ve purchased.
Can’t remember if it was Lady Gaga’s The Fame Monster or Ke$ha’s Animal, both around January or February? I bought both on their release days, so whichever came last.
I’ve bought quite a bit of music since then-- the ex-girlfriend and I wrecked my music budget on Broadway cast albums on iTunes since then, and I downloaded M/A/R/R/S’s Pump Up the Volume just the other night-- but those are the last on physical media. I’ve been looking to buy a few pop and rock CDs since then (Amanda Blank, Kate Miller-Heidke, Emelee, Jucifer, Britney Spears, Sonic Youth, etc… I’ve got weird tastes) that I’ve bought via download but would like to own on “real” media, and would happily plunk down the cash if I found them today at a price < $10. In the near future, looks like I’ll be owning Christina Aguilera’s Bionic on CD (and vinyl) in a month or two.
It was Court Yard Hounds’ debut last week, I also bought Peter Gabriel’s Up at the same place. I buy a lot of singles on iTunes but all my albums are on CD.
The latest by The National, “High Violet”, earlier this week. I’m cheating since buying CDs is still my regular way to purchase music. I’ll import them into iTunes in the house and leave the CD in the car for driving.
Can’t be sure, but I think it was the newish remaster (in the reproduction cardboard sleeve) of Procol Harum in Concert with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. I’ve cut back on my buying the last year or two, so that was probably about a month ago. They were the first proper group I went to see, about 6 months before this was recorded, back in 1971…
A Night at the Opera by Queen. Though maybe “buy” isn’t quite right – I got it by filling out surveys.
Actually bought and paid cash: Crooked Songs by The Ramblin’ Jug Stompers. I usually pick up one CD from local artists at the Saratoga First Night celebration.
Monsters of Folk
Them Crooked Vultures
Big Brother - Cosmic Blues
Picked up Them Crooked Vulturesin Dec, and will be getting the new Stone Temple Pilots self titled on the 25th
I believe it was a Moxy Fruvous CD, as a gift, sometime in 2002. But that doesn’t mean much as I’ve only purchased about 10 CDs in my whole life, 8 or so as gifts (and lest I be thought someone who grew up entirely in the downloading era, I’m 36).
Another Green World – Brian Eno
Exposure – Robert Fripp
All The Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes – Pete Townshend
Why is this cheating? Because it goes against the point of the thread somehow? I couldn’t go more than a few weeks without buying a CD, and I’ve yet to buy a music download.
(I bought three CDs on Tuesday, at a Chemlab concert: Rock Whore vs. Dance Floor by Chemlab, Covergirl by Jared Louche and the Aliens, and Hardcore Vanilla by H3llb3nt.)
I’m still a CD-buyer – most recent was, I think, the Crazy Heart soundtrack, right after I saw the movie back in February.
