Bought any new music lately?

I don’t mean all the stuff you’re downloading into your iPod. I mean real CDs.
Feeling a dearth of new music in my home, I bought:

Jimmy Eat World
Keane-- Hopes and Fears
Franz Ferdinand
The Killers–Hot Fuss
Muse–Absolution
Kaiser Chiefs–I Predict A Riot (import single)
Weezer–Pinkerton

I like 'em all.

(If you can recommend anything similar to the above, please post it here.)

Oh, and anything you bought, and if you like it or not.

I got the first United States of America record on vinyl from my sweetie for Valentine’s Day. They were a great 1960’s band who experimented with home-built synthesizers and electronic effects, and were sort of the prototype for later bands like Portishead and Stereolab.

I bought:

Postal Service
the Garden State soundtrack
Nu Jazz Italia

I love them all.

This “Jimmy Eat World” release you speak of: what’s the CD’s name? I hear they might get around to releasing an eponymous CD. Too bad they haven’t yet

The most recently-released CD I got new, shrink wrapped, was “Give Up” by the Postal Service, about a year ago. I’ve gotten newer CDs since then, but they don’t really count since they were used CD’s (if that makes sense). The last new CD I got was a couple months ago, Flogging Molly’s “Drunken Lullabies”.

If I could hear all of a CD before I bought it, I would be more likely to buy new CDs: at CD resellers, you can preview previously owned material but you cannot do the same for new material. As it is, when I do take the leap of faith and get a new CD, I am disappointed at least 1/3 of the time, and this is when I am careful to only purchase works I think I will like most of the songs to.

In the past 2 years I have purchased maybe 4 shrink-wrapped CDs, and at least 40 used CDs.

On preview, rock on Marge

After a year or so of not buying any, I had a bit of a binge in the past month:

Alison Krauss - Forget About It—A superb popular offering from one of my favorite musicians. The sounds are pristine and bell-like, and the songs heartfelt and truthful.
Alison Krauss and Union Station - New Favorite—See above, with the addition that her band is a bastion of excellence.
The Best of Earl Klugh—I enjoy the tone he gets in general; I find it calming yet edgy.
Donald Fagen - Kamakiriad—More of the same from the great mind who did The Nightfly.
Vince Guaraldi Trio - A Boy Named Charlie Brown—I frickin’ love this music. It’s intelligent, yet mindful of innocence.
Django Reinhardt - Jazz Masters 38—A nice funky jazz album. I was first exposed to this type of music by The Three Stooges, of all sources (on that one public domain episode where they’re in court).

I love 'em all.

It’s just called Jimmy Eat World. It has “Bleed American,” “Get it faster,” and more.
Possibly the original title was Bleed American. ?

What do you have against digital downloads? Especially since we now have the possibility of legally buying music from markets that weren’t previously available (Universal has started to put their Chinese/Hong Kong/Taiwan Asian pop collection on iTunes for sale worldwide, to the delight of my wife and mom).

But if you want to talk about store-bought plastic discs, then that’d be The Incredibles soundtrack CD. Though I did order it from Amazon, so maybe it doesn’t count as “real”…

The last two CDs I bought were:

Elliott Smith - Figure 8

and

Ted Leo & The Pharmacists - Shake the Sheets

I never bought music and I have no plans to change.

The only CD I’ve purchased so far this year is Eminem’s Encore. I think there are a few coming out in the near future that I’ll want to get, but I can’t remember what they might be. I’m a member at BMG Music Service and if they’re offering a good deal, I’ll usually find something. I have a lot of CDs.

I don’t have an iPod.

I mostly buy CDs used. I’ve gotten quite a few lately. The last time I bought a CD in a store was a few weeks ago; I remember because it was a collection from The Band and I thought ten bucks was a reasonable price for it; a bit unusual, maybe, but not unreasonable. So I bought it. ;j

The last CD I bought was Pink Floyd’s The Wall (a double CD), which made me feel good since I had downloaded most of it already. Though I bought it here in Shanghai for only about 25 RMB (~3 dollars), so I’m not sure if it’s legit or not. It was a respectable-looking music store, though, and there are no typos as far as I can see.

The last CD I bought stateside was Andrea Bocelli’s Sogno.

Boy that was pithy - thanks for contributing, guest.

I thought Jimmy Eat World’s last CD was Bleed American and just came out with a new one called Futures?

I just got two new CDs:

Mastodon - Leviathan - a metal concept album based on Moby Dick. I have listened to about 1/2 and so far very cool. Kinda Ride the Lightning-era Metallica. I rarely dip into the metal genre anymore but I am pleased with this acquisition.

The Wildhearts - The Wildhearts Must Be Destroyed. Supposed to be hard-edged rock with melodic hooks. Haven’t listened to it yet, but hope it is like The Darkness without the annoying falsetto…

Lacuna Coil - Comalies.
A Beau Brummels collection.

Kind of an odd spread. I should find something even more out there to spread it out more, like bagpipes, or Tibetan chant.

Ayup. My copy is “Bleed American”, but it was hastily renamed after certain events.

Last night I bought a few CDs, including Cannonball Adderley’s Somethin’ Else, a collection of Johann Strauss’s waltzes, the Minutemen’s Double Nickels on the Dime, and Darkthrone’s Under a Funeral Moon. I think that wins the “most diverse” category.

My first post! Lurker for years.

I recently went on a spree (for me), and bought:
[ul]
[li]Wilco -A Ghost is Born[/li][li]Modest Mouse -Good News…[/li][li]Bob Mould -Workbook (a replacement for me…drunken roomate + beer + BM CD = Coaster)[/li][li]Matthew Sweet -Living Things[/li][/ul]
I think I’m getting old, since I don’t recognize a few of the more aggressively-named bands. :frowning:

well I got bright eyes yesturday. It’s okay so far.

I got Kasabian last week… it’s excelent.
I also got the zutons last week. also very good.

A few weeks ago I picked up snow patrol very good.

and I would recomend hotel costes 7 to anyone.

Nothing against them. I just felt like talkin’ CDs.

It wasn’t a purchase, it was a gift, but I got the new **Tom Waits ** a while back. And I’m still not sure if I like it or not. I like Tom Waits but I don’t think I could recommend this to anyone but the most hardcore fan.
