Ditto for me too. I think mine is around 3-4 years old. Freezes and doesn’t respond to remote or phone app.
It’s becoming clear that we are all victims of a giant political conspiracy designed to interrupt our binge-watching. Maybe it’s time to upgrade.
And what is the solution?
Have any of you tried a factory reset? (Sis has our Roku, so I’ve never tried.)
My RokuLT has been freezing up for a couple of months now. It always works okay after I power cycle it, but it’s happening more often–once every other day or so. Not a huge deal but it is getting pretty annoying.
Same issue here. Locks up, unplug, works fine. Our TV is acting up also, so I’ll probably replace it with a smart TV and not need the Roku.
Can I assume that there is no way to somehow download any software changes/updates to the device? Will buying a more recent model fix the glitches or are people with newer models having the same issues?
You might want to rethink that. It’s much worse than those combo VCR-TVs of old.
The “smart” part of the TV is like a Roku, Amazon FireTV, etc. As noted in this thread, it can and will go belly up, probably before the actual TV part does. But since it also controls the TV overall, the TV won’t revert to being a dumb TV. It becomes a dead TV.
People have also found security holes in some of them which allow malicious entities to brick the TV. Expect a rise in these problems. (“PayPal us $50 if you want to watch KUTK again.”)
It’s one thing to replace a $100 box, it’s another to replace a $600+ (+++?) device.
(I recently acquired an Amazon Fire TV. I also have a Fire TV Stick. The former is da bomb. Having an Ethernet port helps immensely. Plus it has a WiFi remote, with a voice input thing. The Stick is pathetic by comparison.)
There’s a Roku 4 now (something about 4K Ultra HD). I should get it for my father to solve his freezing up issue, since he got a stronger wireless booster thingie which so far has fixed my <Roku can’t connect to sites> issue.
You might want to wait on the Roku 4. I was reading some problems of overheating causing hangs.
I had one hang on my Roku 3 after I bought it. I removed all channels except for these and haven’t had the hang again:
Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, HBO, CNN, YouTube
I don’t know if it’s just coincidence or if one of the other channels I deleted was causing the hang.
