But then, I don’t think too many people pay attention to sigs anyway.
No offense to anyone (Silo included 
) I don’t read sigs anyway…especially in areas like GQ and GD.
I think any sig is too long and I think I have used mine once in 4 months or so.
For those of us with slow connections it just adds to the length of time a thread will open.
But is it the size of the sig that matters? or how you use it?

i remember reading the quote in a straight dope book, i still hope to be able to use it in winter conversation. i think that crunchy frog’s suggested trim is quite good.
That is my all-time favorite Cecil quote, so I have no problems with it. That one even gets non-Dopers laughing when I relate it…
And I don’t think I am one to talk about ANYONE’S sig file being too long…

I don’t think it is… but then when I first started out my sig was like… 13 lines long of straight words… now that is a lot!
Yes, I think it’s too big, but that’s just my humble opinion. But then again, I think anything beyond 2 lines is too lenghty.
In general, I do not like long sigs. No matter how clever, they tire after the 3rd, 4th,… 25th, 60th, etc reading. They use up a lot of bandwidth, and face it- once you have read them once- who cares?
- Keep them short.
- Do not use them all the time
- When they are thought to be “clever” or “witty”, remember NOTHING is clever or witty the 10th time it is repeated.
I hate sigs that are short don’t you?
Well, judging from some of your past posts, your sig doesn’t seem to be as big as your dick allegedly is.

I would say that normally a sig of that length is too long, but this one is okay by me, considering when I first read that in The Straight Dope I laughed for a good 15 minutes before I nearly ran out of air, practically choked to death, and then commenced laughing again.

I’m confused by something, maybe it can be answered here.
I remember the thread from UncleBeer where he ordered us to refrain from double posting and especially from the obligatory “oops” post after.
I also remember mods talking about bandwidth, the slowness of the board due to massive use and the problems that causes. I’ve also seen posts by mods where they’ve said they’ve asked particular folks to reduce their sig lines to “save bandwidth”
Do sig lines themselves add to this problem? Is it additional use of bandwidth? do sig lines that contain codes (for links or smilies or whatever) use more bandwidth? or is it the additional space, returns lines etc?
if they do, then my preference would be for no sig lines - I’d rather save the bandwidth for original thoughts. If the amount of bandwidth used is the same then I wouldn’t care about someone else’s choice of adornment. I tend to skip them anyway.
