I think he’s questioning the issue that the the police told him that his wife died and he didn’t ask which one. If I recall correctly (and I could be wrong) I thought they told him right from the start that Nicole died, and didn’t leave the “which wife” question open.

This is from Wiki, but

Detective Ron Phillips testified that when he called Simpson in Chicago to tell him of his ex-wife’s murder, he sounded shocked and upset, but did not ask about how she died.

So, not “which ex-wife” but “how she died” - i.e. he already knew that she had been murdered (presumably) without being told.
