I read that Brosnan no longer smoked cigarettes and was quite adamant that James Bond not smoke while he played the role.
Now I just saw the movie “The Matador” in which Brosnan’s character smokes quite a lot. I seem to remember him smoking in something else I have seen recently. So has he fallen off the wagon and started smoking again? Or has he just given up his stand against his characters smoking?
Don’t know about cigs, but I recall seeing pics of him in public smoking cigars.

Last I heard, he was still a smoker, but refused to smoke as Bond because he knew how much an influence it was on him as a child to get him smoking (the first movie he ever saw was a Connory Bond film). I remember reading an interview with him about Tomorrow Never Dies and he said there was one scene where Bond was sitting there, drinking vodka, and it “Sooo, called for a cigarette, but I just couldn’t let him do it.” When I saw that scene, I couldn’t help but think, “Bond does need a cigarette.” There’s a couple in Casino Royale where Bond, IMHO, should be smoking, but I can understand why they don’t want to show him smoking any more.
