George Bush isn’t all bad.
He converts oxygen into carbon dioxide, thereby ensuring lush plant growth.
(Of course, now that I think about it, he can’t even do that without causing greenhouse gas emissions, now can he?)

Is this a poll? If so, here is my vote.
Yes. he is irredeemable.
and the he is not in caps on purpose. It denotes a lack of respect, which is what I have for him.
So… liberals hate nothing more than Bush being wrong?
I think that’s probably because Truman actually did some good things before the Korean War turned sour.
I’d find it tough to vote if I refused to evaluate officials before history does. Do you flip a coin or what?
I think you’ll have to wait and see what happens if Bush is ever right.
On the other hand, maybe “right” refers to Bush’s position on the political spectrum… you know, as in “yes… far right.”
So in that case, **Mr. Moto ** would mean that the only thing liberals hate more than Bush being wrong all the time is his incessant toadying to the far right wing elements of the Republican party. I guess I could see that interpretation, although I still think the gross incompetence, bogus war and thousands of lives lost are probably greater sources of liberal hatred.
Bush still has a couple years left, though; so I guess in theory he could still redeem himself. Maybe if he goes into space and fights Muhammad Ali for the right to defend Earth against alien invaders. Or just goes into space, period.
But what about Putin’s? Bush sure does use that “s” word a lot.
It had a lot more to do with the public realization that MacArthur really had wanted to start World War III and that Truman really did need to relieve him, despite his having salvaged a bloody draw in Korea with the Inchon operation. Truman’s unpopularity probably reflected MacArthur’s popularity more than anything else.
might I also point out that you seem to be hoping the best of the predictive powers from the same folks that brought us ‘we shall be greeted with flowers’ , “Mission Accomplished” and “the insurgency is in their last throes”???
Of course not, if he truly repents of his sins and accepts Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. . . .
A talent he shares with bulls.
Come now…he lowered taxes for some. Surely that forgives all the expendable US soldiers and dead ragheads in the world!

I think the worst of all possibilities is if Bus himself feels like he is irredeemable and so doesn’t even bother trying, and gets even worse…assuming he was ever trying to be worthy in the first place.
Well, look at Nixon for a recent historical example, another Republican who stank up the Presidency big time. But in addition, Nixon went to China and got detente going. Nixon did a lot of other things that made good practical sense. All of Bush’s efforts seem to be ideologically driven, and for the most part, huge failures. Can anyone point to a positive achievement by Bush that’s practical and intelligent? The only thing I can think of is his commitment to spend more money to quell the AIDS epidemic in Africa, although I don’t believe he followed through with hte funds to nearly the extent he promised he would. Even if he had followed through, I don’t think a good, pragmatic response to the AIDS epidemic would be enough to redeem him in the US. Maybe in Africa, if they can get over his indifference to Darfur.
There was that whole Dubai ports thing. Wasn’t he on the right side in that one?
I’m so glad you’re back and making regular contributions, Starving Artist.
What a lame piece of nonsense “observation” this is. Surely we’re well past the point of “You just hate Bush!”
No, for all his faults, I don’t think Bush has ever played to public opinion. His problem is not that he follows or defies public opinion - it’s that he’s unaware of public opinion. There has been talk for years of the “bubble” - the inner circle of like-minded people who surround Bush and keep out any dissenting voices. It’s a comforting illusion to have everyone around you agreeing with you, but if those people don’t represent a wider viewpoint it remains just an illusion.
And at some point, reality will trump the illusion. Even Bush supporters must be wishing he was a little more connected to what’s going on in the world. Maybe if somebody had been able to convince Bush back in 2003 that Iraqis were not going to throw flowers, there would have been a more successful military plan. Maybe if somebody back in 2006 had been able to convince Bush how bad the elections were going to be, there would have been more effort to save the Republican majority in Congress.
At this point, I think it would take the second coming of Jesus wearing a Bush/Cheney 2004 T-shirt.
I suspect he does already - see how much good it has done. Well, if Bush goes to heaven, and I’m in hell, it’s all to the good as far as I’m concerned. You’d be stuck with the shmuck.
As for a way of redeeming himself - maybe if he shot Cheney in the face…
On the news this morning I heard Bush say something about how he’s always open to debate during wartime. All I could do was be stunned by such a blatant lie, although you’d think I’d be used to it by now.
This weekend, I read about a bombing in Iraq which killed 130-some civilians, and I thought about the chaos we Americans have caused there and how difficult it seems to be for ordinary Iraqis to live their lives.
I don’t think there’s anything which could redeem him in my eyes. All I can do is ride this out and remember other presidents have been accused of doing worse jobs.
Interesting. Just before I found this thread I had this “vision” of Bush, in the fall of 2009, sitting in his rec room at Crawford, Barney quietly gnawing on his left shoe, and realizing (Shrub, not Barney) that absolutely no one is interested in what he thinks about anything. The man will be completely marginalized.
