I disagree. He’ll be trotted out like a figurehead from time to time, with carefully orchestrated scripts, homey little quirks, photo ops w/him clearing bush, culminating in some grandoise scheme to rename some monument or national park in his honor - perhaps in the Alaskan oil fields?
I disagree. Bush has been such a clear disaster that I predict that by Groundhog Day, 2009, the GOP will be doing its collective best to erase his memory from its websites. If he volunteers to campaign with GOP Congressional candidates in 2010, they’ll urge him to stay far, far away.
AFAICR, he was still quite the money machine, even recently (though I admit, in some of the closer cases, folks were distancing themselves from him). No, I stand by my prediction. As long as he doesn’t face impeachment/resignation, the spin is going to be that Iraq was a valient effort to do good [sup]tm[/sup], and if it weren’t for those naysaying stab ya in the back folks back here suggesting that the emporer wore no clothes, it would have worked. Christ, did ya see Mr. Moto’s post where he’s content to ‘wait it out’, confident that history will see Iraq as the good and proper thing to do (alebit w/a few missteps). The capacity for self delusion seems to know no bounds.

I would take away the penitentiary part if he (a) promised not to involve himself in any political causes post-resignation ever again (humanitarian efforts are fine), and (b) acknowledge that he approved the torture of dozens, if not hundreds, of detainees and publicly admit that it was a morally reprehensible thing to do.
And I don’t need him to prosecute Cheney personally if he also resigns and adheres to condition (a) as well.

I actually expect him to go out and make a mil or two on the mashed-potato circuit, but that will be it; especially if the Republicans lose the White House in 2008 and can in any way blame him.

To be fair, Bush did move to Texas when he was 3, and lived there for most of his life.

Does he ever do anything on his ranch other than clear brush and fall off of bicycles? Does he have any cattle? Does he have any horses? Does he raise anything at all that would justify calling the place a ranch? Or is it just a place where he goes to pretend whatever the hell he pretends when he isn’t pretending to be a statesman?
