I thought the same thing about LMFAO’s “Sexy and I Know it Video” as well as the “Gangnam Style” video yet people have made parodies of both for some reason.

I guess I didn’t mean it was impossible to do it, just that it is pointless, as are LMFAO parodies.

It was funny for a week. Now that song is used for every other commercial on TV, for everything from cell phones to kimchi refrigerators.

Also that long-winded interpretation of the song is a bit silly. He isn’t subtly hitting on her in the song, he is OVERTLY saying that he is a prime example of a macho man whom any girl would want to date. There is no subtlety about it.

Well now you’ve got me interested - tell me more about these kimchi refridgerators. Does this mean I can make kimchi at home if I have one?

The same guy basically says that Psy can be seen as the equivalent of Eminem, with “Gangnam Style” the equivalent of “Without Me.” Funny lyrics, but there’s a satire/meaning underneath it that separates it from say, Weird Al.

I’ll go get my walker now, because the explanation was making me think of Springsteen’s “Darlington County”.

You can make kimchi at home with or without any special fridge. Just make sure you get an airtight(smell-tight) container for it, as it will stink up your fridge if you don’t secure it perfectly.

I can’t find the recipe we use online, but I’m sure there are many.

Well, yeah, now, since doubling his father’s stock. But I wonder what his father’s reaction was when he first told him he wanted to be a performer instead of a software tycoon.

Since Psy attended Boston University and Berklee College of Music, I suspect there was never any doubt he was going to be a musician/performer and not a software tycoon.

Kimchi refrigerators help keep your kimchi fresh by maintaining the optimal temperature for kimchi freshness. It’s also good for storing vegetables and fruit. Or so I hear.

Koreans have fridges for everything. You can also buy a fridge for your clothes and your makeup.

Psy also starting doing an ad for Jinro soju and their stock prices shot up almost immediately after. Crazy. His mom owns a restaurant in the Gangnam area (is that ironic?) and I’m sure her business has been doing pretty well lately.

I don’t think it’s pointless; you just have to be creative. One idea that seems obvious is to make fun of people for liking it. Another would be to take another song and make it into a Gangnam style song. Or try to do it like a “proper” music video.

You just can’t make fun of it for being stupid, since it’s supposed to be stupid.

I’d like to see the culture where rapping while sitting on the toilet, screaming at women’s asses while they do yoga, running down the street while pretending to ride a horse, and dramatically walking away from a couch that explodes for no reason, all while wearing a powder blue tux, isn’t considered to be funny.

That culture exists in the computer room in my house, where I just saw this famous video for the first time. Now I know that society is doomed, given the unexplainable popularity of this “funny” video.

posturing about how awesome he is (though, at least when translated, can get a bit silly at points – like the whole downing a cup of coffee while it’s still hot thing).

The coffee thing is a specific Korean culture reference. Drinking expensive coffee is a status symbol, so shotgunning it is something a self-important “oppa” would do.
