I saw ROTK a second time, and saw a trailer for an unusual sci-fi movie called Riddick chronicles. The name Riddick sounds familiar…I’m pretty sure he was the convict dude (Vin Deisel) in Pitch Black.
Is this a prequel? I remember them talking about pieces of Riddicks past, how he escaped a prison planet by hijacking a ship and all that, and I heard they were going to make a movie based off the Pitch Black storyline.
But this story seems very drawn-out, with a race of borg-like beings and Riddick not really seemling like a crook at all. Anyone have any info on it?
When I first heard they were going to be making a sequel to Pitch Black focusing on Riddick, I was a little excited because he was a pretty cool character in my opinion, and I really enjoyed the movie.
I don’t know what to think about this. Part of what I liked about Pitch Black was the kind of Western feel it had. Everyone was wearing khakis and work clothes and looked nothing super special in terms of pretentious future crap. It seems they’ve completely gotten away from that. This doesn’t make me happy, but I’m still a little interested in seeing what they do with the character.
Yeah, I was a bit thrown by the new take on things too. Looks more like Dune than Pitch Black. But then he is on a different planet altogether. And I can understand Twohy not wanting to make just another “one guy against the alien monsters” flick. Riddick was an interesting character as an anti-hero who really didn’t redeem himself in the end. I hope they stay true to the character. If so, I’ll give it a chance.
