Is Ted Stevens toast?

You added a few extra letters to “whore.”

If they’re willing to shell out ten grand for the privilege.

The added ‘ars’ seems very appropriate.

The downside of this is all the shit I’m going to take from my brother and his cronies at the gym tomorrow. My brother told me that he’d vote for Stevens “if he was dead.” Of course, he’s also ga-ga over Palin. Yesterday he called her the “aurora borealis queen of the north.” :smack: (I wish there was a vomit smiley) It’s pretty disgusting behavior from a 72-year old.

What the hell does that even mean?

Ah, he’d want to pull a [Missouri](Mel - Wikipedia Carnahan)?

Man, you got me. Sometimes I think he’s going senile.

At least it puts the mechanism that might have put Palin in as Senator to an end. I shuddered at her moving up.
Word is she might be offered 7 million to write a book. Wonder if it will include crayons?

They’re telling her seven million, but they’re counting on her not knowing how many zeros are needed. Plus, the decimal point will totally freak her.

If Stevens does in fact lose in a close race, it’ll be interesting to see the Republican reaction.

Namely, if Stevens is removed, then we get the special-election-Sarah-Palin option. Which Republicans (meaning the party machine) will back a recount in the hopes of a Senator Palin, and which will throw in the towel as a way to gracefully avoid the possibility? I’ll bet the party will be divided on the subject of a potential Senator Palin.

Is it a version of a little ray of sunshine? :dubious:
It’s pretty weird, no offense to your brother.

I’m glad Stevens lost. Hope this Begich does a good job. (and I read in some mag that that bridge to nowhere isn’t actually to nowhere and the bridge is needed… if so, that’s too bad).

Oh, absolutely not, I don’t think there would be any dissent at all, certainly not from the state GOP. After all, they’ve backed Stevens all the way – already proving they would prefer a Republican convicted felon to a law abiding Democrat.

I dunno, are there other Pub candidates waiting in the wings who could challenge Palin to get on the ballot as the Pub candidate, if it came to a special election?

Not so much the state GOP but the Republican party machine from the lower 48, I think — there is a not insignificant “blame Palin” faction that wants to keep her away from any position of interest or media attention. How enthusiastically will the GOP support a recount and a possible special election that comes with it?

Ahh, just throw a little disgustingness back at him:

[Chefguy’s brother] and Sarah, sittin’ in a tree,
K-I-S-S-I-N-G. . .

Sean Parnell challenged and nearly beat Young for the House nomination, so he might try his luck against Palin.

Was that in Newsweek last month? The mayor of the town (Ketchikan IIRC) wrote an essay- the airport is on the island across from town, so everyone has to ferry over. Stevens probably has a friend who owned the land or something along those lines.

Just curious–I must have missed it upthread-- why would a recount in the Nov. 2008 general election lead to a special election?

Presumably a recount could lead to Stevens winning. Then, he’d be kicked out by the rest of the Senate, so a special election would be held to fill his seat.

Begich wins!

Yes. Steven’s probably did, but if the bridge is needed, then it’s needed.

[Irrelevant aside]: On the Daily Show a week or so ago they showed the stuff that got Steven’s indicted. I have to say that sculpture is really ugly. [/IA]

NO!

I guess Jon Stewart doesn’t to make fun of him anymore
