They’re also going to find out what respect means, after kicking out Senator Tubes. 'Sides, they still have Murkowski. (For now.)
Alaska doesn’t need Federal pork. Haven’t you heard? Palin has the state rolling in oil money.
Bye-bye, Ted. I never voted for you while I lived in Alaska, and I’m happy to see that the wheels of Justice eventually ground you up.
If you guys reelect a convicted criminal as a Senator, then I think it’s pretty clear that the state of Alaska is sending a big “fuck you” to the rest of the Union.
He’s going to be introduced to a “series of tubes” in the prison shower.
If Stevens is re-elected but the Senate votes to expel him . . . that means Palin gets to appoint his replacement. Right?
Hey! Only Sandra Berhard can make rape funny!
Most likely, unless she gets tossed out on her ear before them.
Here’s an idea: In lieu of prison, he can be sentenced to walking the Bridge to Nowhere!
<Marv Albert> YES!!! </MA>
Don’t give them any ideas.
Bush will pardon him.
Fuck you Ted Stevens. May unspeakable horrors be visited upon you by huge scary prison thugs. (I’m betting he probably won’t go, but one can dream.)
Can Palin appt herself? I realize they had to rewrite their laws after Murkowski appointed his daughter, but I’m not sure how it stands. Should be a fun choice anyway…
No. There has to be a special election. Fortunately, there’s about to be a general one, so that’ll save some money.
Anyone see the MSNBC “Lock up” episode on the Alaska State Pen? Scary dudes in there. I think I’d rather be sentenced to the LA County jail than that crazy place.

(Not that he’d be sent there.)
“Save some money?” Why’s Alaska gotta worry about spending money? I thought Gov. Palin kicked the oil companies asses and everyone in the state was now rolling in the dough. From the way she tells it, they could use $100 bills for ballots.
Based upon the jury’s verdict, that’s close to how the honorable Senator was elected.
There’s a very good chance that he’ll be re-elected anyway. People here are just that ornery and just that stupid, and there’s a healthy dose of rest-of-the-country-go-fuck-yourselves in the bargain. Somebody commented about Palin being tossed out of office. It will never happen, unless she becomes a serial killer. Her approval rating here is still way up there, and will only go up when she returns in defeat.
Now, I’m not defending Stevens in any way with the following. I’m just telling you all how he’s viewed here. Ted was appointed as Senator all those years ago as a virtual unknown. Since that time, he has dragged Alaska from being a state with little government support into a place that has taken in millions (if not billions) of dollars in earmark spending. Most of that money has been for legitimate projects that have improved the infrastructure and quality of life for Alaska residents. A fairly goodly amount has also been pure pork.
As a result of his tireless efforts at securing what he saw as Alaska’s fair share of the pie, he has become beloved by many and even revered by some. He has personally successfully interceded for constituents who had been battering their heads against entrenched federal bureaucracy for years. That’s why he may yet win this coming election, his conviction notwithstanding. Most people see him as a basically honest and decent person who has been fighting for Alaskans all these many years, and who has now been caught out because he was too trusting.
My opinion is that you can do the right thing your entire life, and while that may mitigate how I feel about you personally, if do something criminal, you’re a crook and you have no business in the business of representing my state or me.
Are you seriously saying his conviction could actually help?! Man, Alaska sure is fucked-up, isn’t it?
Probably no more so than most states, but our politics here is in complete disarray, with this conviction down, and Don Young under investigation, five state legislators in jail, it’s been a rocky year. On the bright side there are a couple of guys running for the national slots who are bright and honest and qualified. It will be close, I’m thinking, because this is one of the reddest states in the country. The best we can hope for is that, because of the conviction, those who would normally vote for Ted will stay home rather than vote for a Democrat.
Heck even in Detroit, they lock up the guy with the felony convictions instead of returning him to office…
Stevens sees the judge in Feb. Because he is an old thief as opposed to young thief, word is he will not get time. The senate needs 2/3 vote to expel him. He has been a pushy old prick and has not treated his contemporaries well, He will be very sweet in the next couple months. He should be kicked out of the senate and do time. He wont.He will walk and proclaim that he was abused for just doing his job.
Eventually.
