Is the 6th(and final) League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Vol. 2 out yet?

I don’t read comics enough and don’t know of any sites that list release dates. I am interested in if this one has been released yet.

This is the only book I read(other than the even slower Rising Stars). I see the Annotated page does not have a listing for issue six yet, but they could be slow.

Thanks!

I don’t believe its been released yet, if the LOEG mesage board at the DC Comics site is anything to go by.

Could you give a layman a little backstory on the LOEG? I am not a comics guy and had never heard of this title before the movie promos. I want to see the movie, but maybe a little background would facilitate enjoyment.

Sure, rpinrd.

First of all, if you love the comic(as I do), you will probably be hesitant about the movie.

It’s about a group, formed by a man named Campion Bond, that is a collected to stop a great evil(who turns out to be a very relevant villain to Victorian Literature). This group is comprised of(and pay attention, 'cause it is different from the movie):

  1. Allan Quatermain

  2. Dr Jeckyl/Mr. Hyde

  3. Invisible Man

  4. Captain Nemo

  5. Mina Murray(who is just plain human, no super powers…not a vampire).

They seek out and try to defeat the evil villain who is going to destroy the villain. It is pure brilliance, but is not like the movie at all.

I recommend the site:

The Annotated League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

The movie sounds slightly unlike the comic, except in general terms. The writer of the comic, Alan Moore, has teamed up Mr Hyde, Nemo, Mina from Dracula, Allan Quartermain from the Haggard novels, and the Invisible Man to fight various threats including Professor Moriarty and the Tripod Martians from HG Wells’ War of the Worlds. There are other cameos from other turn of the century novels, including Moby Dick, the Warlord of Mars books, and others. Its a nice idea, to bypass copyright problems by using public domain characters in a team. The characterisation is excellent, ie of typical Moore quality.

The movie has Mina as a vampire (which she is not in the comic), and also has Dorian Grey (Oscar Wilde’s creation) and an adult Tom Sawyer.

Slight hijack –

ANYBODY have any guesses what H-142, what Mina and Allan are sent to fetch from Dr. Moreau in #5, could be? To use Moreau, it’s obviously an animal/human hybrid.

Dangerous enough to be used in national defense, as Moreau quickly surmises that London ‘must be in grave danger,’ for them to come get it.

Probably big, and probably can fly – I only guess this because Mina and Allan have to get back to London quickly-- plus the series is wrapping up in one issue.

I’m guessing… a dragon of some sort. I’m a loss to guess any late 19th century literary dragons, though. (unless it’s Smaug – along with some youthful reference to J.R.R. Tolkien)

Looking at Mahaloth’s post, I see I should have given a spoiler warning. Sorry.

H-172… I am guessing its an intelligent virus or influenza. “H” means “hybrid”.

It could be Cthulhu, but I doubt it.

Incidentally, a guy called Jess Nevins (an obnoxious, but very thorough individual) has an annotated guide to the League, due for publication shortly, which includes an interview with Moore.

Wow. I don’t find Jess Nevins’ tone of writing to be obnoxious at all. Different strokes, I guess.

The intelligent virus / influenza thing would be more in keeping in the spirit of the novel, I suppose. But why would it need to be intelligent? And how would Moreau gain the technology to tailor microscopic creatures for germ warfare, even given the exaggerated technological advances of the comic?
