Is the Coneheads movie any good?

Maintain low tones!

I can’t remember if this is in the movie or just in the companion book, but Beldar and Primat think lightbulbs are a great snack.

The water breaking/baby delivery scene is worth the price of a rental alone.

I just bought it on VHS at a flea market. It’s a great fun movie.

My favorite scene is when they’re in the motel, she’s reading the bible and laughing hysterically.

If you love language, the way they phrase things is well worth it. You have to listen closely to catch it all.

I’d also recommend seeing it uncut. The adaptations for TV cut some good bits.

Count me as a dissenter.

I loved the SNL sketches - probably my favorite thing from that show.

I was horrified at the low quality of this movie. I think I might have laughed once.

I can’t put my finger on why it sucked; closest thing I can say it that it seemed to take itself too seriously. Material wise it was no different than the sketches and yet it seemed lifeless on film.

Closest analogy I can think of was The Munsters. I loved that show, every episode. Yet they made a TV movie during the show’s original run. Same type of jokes (maybe even the same writers, I’llhave to check IMDB). That movie sucked balls too.

Just my two cents.

Addendum: just shared this with a friend who pointed out the lack of a “laugh track” in both these movie train wrecks. You wouldn’t expect one in a movie, and yet my friend might be onto something. The tone in both cases was drastically different from their TV counterparts. Maybe it was the laughtrack after all?

Yeah, let’s not build this movie up too much. It was just OK in my book. A solid “meh”+.

(But it DOES have a nice soundtrack.)

I didn’t say it was good, mind you. But I enjoyed it enough to have watched it several times on purpose, and sometimes quote it with another friend who liked it as much as I did. It’'s not great cinema, but it’s funny.

I liked the Coneheads movie especially when they are on their home planet. I liked Ladies Man too especially when he reads his poem that ends, “…and do it in the butt.”

They’re not great movies but they are fun.
